Projector retrofit question

I was looking at doing this mod but I want to make sure to get the easiest kit possible to do so. I've been told the mini h1 kit from the TRS is the easiest and fits right into the housing, is this correct?

They're running a special for Black Friday so this is the time to purchase.

From everything I've read, yes, that kit is the easiest plug and play. It's the one I plan on getting eventually.

Thinking about getting in on this as well. What harness is best to get? That's the only part I'm slightly confused about.

And would it be easier to go with the H1 or D2S?

Output is slightly different between D2S and H1. The D2S has better high beam and H1 has better low beam width. Bulbs are more limited with H1 as well, since D2S is what a lot of OEM bulbs are. H1 is plug n play, whereas D2S will probably take a bit of modification to get it to fit.

My problem is the last time I tried anything like this was 10 years ago. Plus I don't want to buy cheap lights so I'm modifying the factory lights. So I need it to be as easy as possible and somewhat quick because the runner is my DD.

The H1 kit will be the fastest install. You can basically just take your light apart, stock the projector into the hole, and screw it in from the back. Then you add the 4 outer screws. While the bulb choice is more limited, that shouldn't be a problem.
The D2S is just a slight upgrade, and only slightly harder to install. You may have to trim. Bit more to do it.

I'll most likely go with the D2S setup...slightly better components, few more shroud choices, but just as "easy" to install as the Mini H1. And right now it's a hell of a deal with their Black Friday sale.

I am trying to decide on my projectors right now as well.
These output pictures might help. The Mini D2s really dont seem to have a wide low beam like the fxr's and the mini h1's
Also form what I can see all the after market projectors have a really strong hot spot in the center of the beam vs a more uniform light spread with the OEM projectors.

The H1s don't look too bad. TRS has a few comparative shots as well. Anything is better than stock though!

I'm not 100% sure. You may want to try and contact them and ask. I know ZacAttack just ordered the D2S kit and chose the H4/9003 harness. He's got a 98, so I don't know if it's different than the 99+ models since the lights are slightly different.

I just checked the box my Sylvania Silverstars came in and they said H4/9003 so I'll go with that one. Thanks

Ok so I want to order this and I think the h1 is what I'm going to do since its the easiest. Does anyone actually have detailed pics of the install? Like what was cut out, how they are mounted, etc? I'm a visual person and all the builds I've seen always skip that part

Check out SantaCruzRunner's new build. He installed the H1s recently. He left the inside chrome, and it turned out pretty well. According to the TRS website, you shouldn't have to cut the opening in the back, as the back of the projector is small enough to fit through the stock opening.
Rickashay and Brian_SD42 ? Both have write ups that will give you a general idea. Your instal will be easier though.

Bake to open, stick the projector though the opening, mark the 4 mounting holes, install the mounting screws, adjust, and out the glass back on.

From this video, it look like the D2S would fit find. Thats kinda what I want by. It looks like a 02 Civic in the video and they use H4 buld also.

I worked on it on and off for a few weeks, but if you don't paint the inner headlight housings, it would take a lot less time.

Our 4runners have the 9003 bulb type so there actually is zero cutting required for the Mini D2S. Just push the projector through the hole, get roation correct, and snug it down and you are done.

With the Mini D2S there are no mounting screws needed In our headlights it will drop in without cutting and will be secured by the threads on the back of the projector when tightend to the housing.

And does the glue that TRS shows in the video for the shroud come with the kit?
