No you are fine the mini h1's mount up using the same 9003 back plate provided with the kit. Still stupid easy I was just saying that if you wanted to use the Mini d2s kit instead it would directly screw in as well. If you have any other questions just PM me.

For those who have done this: where and how do you mount the ballasts?

And does the glue that TRS shows in the video for the shroud come with the kit?

You will need to find you own glue for the shroud I prefer ace hardware 2 part apoxy for my stuff.

And my ballasts are just kind of floating around behind the headlights

I have some tips and links in my build thread. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/98528-scrunners-build-thread-12.html Basically, either the H1 or D2S will be great. The H1's have been refined a lot more (version 6.0 vs. 2.0) and as mentioned the low beam is better on the H1's, which is what you use 95% of the time. The D2S has the advantage of OEM bulbs (Philips, Osram, CBI). Those bulbs are much better than the Morimoto bulbs that the H1 uses, but the XB35's are pretty good as well. I would definitely go with the XB35's if you go with the H1's and the Phillips 81522 if you go with the D2S's. I'd be happy to answer some questions as well if you have anymore.
