Projector Retrofit

They look pretty white for 6000k. I'm considering 5000k for a hint of blue with more light than 6000k.

As far as i know when you get to 5000k you start to lean towards more yellow, now dont hold me to that cause im not sure about it when you put it in a projector, but with just an HID in a non projector the higher you go the more blue you get after 6000k and 5000k has a pinch of yellow with the white.

I don't think they get yellow until you get down to the mid 4000s. 5000K is supposed to be natural or pure white, while 6000K is cool (blue) white.

Here's a shot I took while doing my retrofit. Upper right is Phillips 6000K bulb, upper left is one of the TRS (can't think of the brand right now) 5000K bulbs. The lower bulbs are 3000K PIAA plasma ion yellows.

Thanks i like them alot. Do you know if this protectant acts as a sealer as well? if thats the case then i go buy some sandpaper and this and call it a day

It's supposed to help just like wax on a car is supposed to protect the paint. Yes, it's a sealer, but I'm willing to bet money that it doesn't last very long. After you restore you plastic clear lens, they are "exposed" to UV light thus degrading them (making them hazy). Lots of people forget about this. Still, not the same as a clear coating or a film you can put on your headlights that I hear about.

with fxr you only cut a hole in the reflector, just like any other projectors, although the mh1 6.0 is a good performer, theres other good options as well. well the good thing is you guys did it right with retrofiting, instead of putting the plug and play kit.

lol it takes a little more than just cutting a hole in the reflector. The horizontal alignment is whats daunting to most people, and why the Mini H1's and the like are so attractive for the DIY'er. You just pop them in and they center themselves. Sure there are drawbacks but its the way to go if your on a tight budget and doing it yourself.

You will start to wash out details on the road past 4300K. 4300K should be a true white. with 5000K being a little blue. Keep in mind, the projectors themslves provide color on the cutoff line regardless of the bulb. Your going to get the cool "color flicker" from projectors running any bulb (check my sig - 4300K bulbs and look at the color on the cutoff) so going excessive on the kelvin scale is only going to detriment your output. IMO 4300K and 5000K are the only two choices for a headlight bulb. This just gets the most output out of your projector setup and allows you to see more details on the road.

OP the retrofit looks great! Love those Gatling 2 shrouds.
