Protect bumper towing

Is there a way to protect your bumper from getting dented from towing? I towed a small trailer once and when I turned, the trailer would hit bumper and creased both sides. Is there something I can put on hitch or bumper to make that impossible?

extend the tongue on the trailer.

Steel bumper, rubber caps for the trailer corners, and crappy dry rotted bald tires on the trailer so you can really push it into that space.

Or you could just be more careful
