New member
Been working on my 4runner for awhile. Need a proper build thread to document my progress thus far. Picked up this 99 4runner SR5 for $3900. Done some routine maintaince as well as some upgrades. Living here in Colorado now I plan on doing more work to my 4runner to enjoy the playground here.

How it sits now as of 7 May 2016


EXTERIOR
CBI front hybrid bumper
PIAA 540's
Trail master light bar
Warn 8000lb winch

SUSPENSION
Bilstein 5100's
Toytec 600lb springs (front)
OME 891's (rear)

BRAKES
Reman 13WL tundra calipers
OEM brake pads
OEM Tundra rotors
Wheelers offroad SS front brake lines
Toytec extended rear brake line

DRIVETRAIN
4:30 front and rear diff swap
RR Dif lock retrofit

WHEELS/TIRES
OEM TRD PRO black wheels
285/70R17 BFG KO2's

Any feed back would be helpful pointing me in the right direction. Either positive or negative feed back is welcome.

Man, you got me... I thought that first pic was your....I was like dddaaaammmmmnnnnnnnn. But then I kept going... And now I hope you do also. Good start, you have a long way to go, but you started in the right place.

Ya I wish that was mine. Ya got along way to go, But i will get there one day.

Offroading is just as much (if not more) driver than car. You can give a clueless man a fully locked vehicle on 35's who will be left in the dust by an experienced wheeler in an open diff vehicle. Good luck on your build mate

True statement. Saw a guy in a 2wd geo tracker do as much as 4wd vehicles do.
 
That is definitely a good rig to aspire too. Smart though to get the maintenance out of the way first. Will pay off in the long run.
 
Hi and welcome to the forum.

I was reading your thread and just wanted to say that unless you have a specific need that there is no reason to SeaFoam your 4Runner. It is not something you should do "just because", especially don't do it just because some people on the internet are doing it. In fact there are plenty of threads where peoples trucks ran worse, at least initially, or had problems appear after doing it.

About the radio. Do you have plans to upgrade the stereo?

I understnad the OEM look is cool but its pretty dated. I just bought a Alpine CDE-HD149BT on ebay for $240 and am using it with my Nexus 7 for full time HD BlueTooth audio which really sounds great.


Anyways ... looking forward to the updates.

I switched to the oem cause the one I had, the face was so bright at I could hardley see out my windshield. I might eventually upgrade to a double din. Not a priority on the list.

Will have the lift installed sat. Can't wait. Still in the hunt for some 33s
 
Love the title and the pics. Where did you find an OEM radio? I've had bad luck with aftermarket ones attracting unwanted attention, especially when I'm not around...
 
Big update. Got the lift kit installed and diff drop. I posted my other wheels and tires on Craigslist and a guy gave me $450 for them and got some new tires put on my new wheels. They are 265/75 16 Goodyear Duratrac's. Only had to come out of pocket $330 for the new tires.






 
Can you tell the specs on the springs you bought? I bought the exact same Bilstein 5100s you did, but plan on going with Tundra springs in the front and the LC 7 wraps in the rear. How much did you lift, hows the ride, and any rake?
