and bought (long distance) a brand new 2006 Galactic Gray Mica SE V8.
It'll arrive here in Anchorage in a few weeks. Got a good deal (and a great Xmas present!)

More details a little later. I intend to remain an active member on this forum.
Thanks to all of you that gave me such terrific pre-purchase advice.

It's about time. All those questions... just joking. Now you can ask more serious questions like "What should I mod first?" And we can tell you to search because even that has been asked.
You'll enjoy the new beast, especially in that colour.

Thanks Guys,
It's got V8 SE stuff, the Sports Package, rear spoiler, premium stereo, auto dimming mirror, DD Cargo w net, front side and rear side curtain airbags, 115v AC outlet, leather stearing wheel/shift knob, homelink garage door opener, 17" alloys, big front brakes, tow package w tranny cooler, moonroof and Valor exhaust tip.

My best friend lives in Olympia where the dealer is. He test drove it today and says it is fabulous. I can't wait to see it when the ship brings it in 2 weeks.
I've never even driven a 4Runner, so I can't wait to get behind the wheel.

Yes, a 4x4.
As far as I know it's got everything you can get for off-roading from the factory.
The only other thing I would have gotten is the air rear suspension and different tires (it's got Dunlops). I might try to sell the Dunlops and get better tires.

Congrats! So you bought a 4R without driving it? I didn't test drive mine, but I drove a few of them before having mine ordered. It's a Toyota, you can't go wrong. :)

Thanks, Uneek and Others

If I could talk the dealer into swapping the Dunlops for better tires (I would pay him the difference), what should I request for my best all-year tire?

I'm in Anchorage, and realistically I'll do 80-90%+ of my driving on roads, and maybe 10-20% moderate off road stuff.

Please give me your suggestions ASAP.
I don't have many days before he'll ship my new baby. (with the Dunlops)

Thanks,
JP

You're welcome.

I haven't seen any SE here with tires other than the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20. I know the SR5 17" can come with Bridgestone Dueler HT. I don't know if there are 17" Michelin CrossTerrains from Toyota. It doesn't hurt to ask the dealer about swapping tires. Maybe they can swap the tires from a SR5 for something other than the Dunlops.

Dealer says they can't swap tires, they are forbidden by Toyota to do that after something that Ford dealerships were doing in South America that led to some deaths.
I'll try out the Dunlops and sell them (and get Revos) if I don't like them.

Good luck with your new truck! You will absolutely love the 4Runner. Your dealer is lying to you. My Toyota dealer swapped the Bridgestones to Michelins on my dads truck. When I got rid of my 2003 Sport, they swapped the Bridgestones on the new truck for the Revos on my old truck.
