Pulling a 6x12 UHAUL Trailer

Question. My parents want to utilize my 4Runner here seeing Uhaul wont rent to someone with anything Explorer (Explorer or Explorer Sport Trac). Its a 08 4Runner Urban Edition with the 4.0L engine. It has a Class III towing package and rated for 5000lbs.

Can the truck haul the 6x12 trailer with any issues? I know the trailer empty weighs around 1800lbs. Or should I aim for the lighter 6x10.

I tow over 3000lbs with my 40.L all the time..and I don't have a problem what-so-ever. This vehicle is a great tow vehicle.

I used one with my 03 v8 and had no issues at all. I would think your v6 could handle it as well. How far are you going to tow and what its the terrain like?

Not far. Maybe 8 miles. Though i do have to pull the trailer up a hill to my parents place.

It will be fine. Tow in 4th gear. If your doing a long road trip try to get the correct drop on the ball mount to ensure the trailer is visually level - remember the front end of the trailer may get lower when the trailer is loaded. If it's just a quick move within your town/city the level doesn't have to be perfect. Try loading the trailer with a bit more weight towards the front of the trailer - I believe there will be instructions in the trailer. Depending how much weight you add to the trailer, you will want to increase the rear tire pressure - I always just add about 5psi, to start off and have the Uhaul people verify the pressure in the trailer tires. Also, the Uhaul 6x12 trailers are actually better than the smaller ones since they have a built-in hydraulic brake - dual Axel, right?

You'll have no problems at all. I rented the same size trailer (6x12) in June, and filled it when I moved. No problems towing it the ~30 miles I moved. So good luck, and it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Cross country move might give reason to be concerned, but at that distance you won't have any trouble at all.

i have a 6x12 trailer that i tow my 2 4wheelers on never have any problems and i have a v6

Even cross country....NO PROBLEM WHAT-SO-EVER. The V6 has more then enough HP and Torque to hall the trailer and all it's contents for THOUSANDS of miles.

you'll be fine. I rented one to move from VA to NY...and i filled the trailer with furniture.

Should be no problem, just properly load the stuff in the trailer to ensure tongue weight is proper.
