Purpose and function of ARB or SW bumpers?

I read a couple of members on this forum mentioned these bumpers will protect your vehicles vital parts, engine, radiator, etc., if you hit a large animal.

Other than this, and the fact that they make your truck look aweome, does it help with anything else?

Protection of the front of the vehicle is one aspect, it also increases approach angle, provides stronger tow points. Its also a better platform for mounting winches, lights, compressor tanks, ect., and of course makes your 4Runner look awesome.
