Put my 4th Gen up for Sale Do you think this is a reasonable price?

So I posted my 4th Gen on Craigslist. This week and I have had so much interest in it I have two people coming to look at it this weekend one gentlemen wants to give me 19.5k cash...I am reluctant to sell it, my phone has been ringing off the hook I saw a similar one with more miles sell for 23k a few weeks back...I am thinking of raising the price to 22k due to so much interest what do you think? My buddies dad who is a jeep guy has three of them a TJ, JK and MJ wants to trade me his 09 Porsche cayenne S with 55k miles for my 4runner but Im not interested in a porsche. he told me this is a truck I should Die with in the garage lol he said he plans to die with his three jeeps in the garage lol.

7inches of lift is over stock height with 33" tires, suspension and body lift! and the truck has about 10-11k in parts with about another 8-9k in labor to install everything as I did not do the labor a shop did all the work $$$$$ and similar mileage v8 silver 4runners are listed at dealers for 18-23k in stock form.

This is a 95 4runner my buddy is selling with 207k miles nice build and he has someone wanting to pay 14.5k at the moment

if you could raise your price and get it, i mean why not, but as far as the guy offering 19.5, thats still a lot of money for a serious offroader. Usually you see that the value of a vehicle built for wheeling drops as you add parts, because knowing that it has been used off road scares potential buyers away. if you can get around your 20k asking price then thats really good no matter what, around here, where i live, you wouldn't get 15k for your 4runner, just isn't a market for it.

as far as the 3rd gen, almost 15k for a vehicle with 200,000 and modifications is crazy, and he should sell it asap to that guy. looks like i need to list mine out where you live when/if i decide to sell it.

Hah, I was actually browsing craigslist last night and saw this up and thought I recognized it. Is there a particular reason you are wanting to sell it? I think 20k is a steal considering the upgrades you have on it. I found it very difficult to find a 4runner with those options and under 100k miles for under 20k but that may just be the market I am in. Have you considered parting it out and trading it in?

I honestly don't want to sell it I was kinda just testing the waters but it has been getting neglected since I got my 85' straight axle 4runner on 37's it just sits in the garage staring at me dying to be driven! I think I have put 12 miles on it in the last 3 weeks lol. I am about to take it to NorthStar in Tahoe right now to go snowboarding so she will get some love! I'd probably let it go for 20k and do a 73 land cruiser build on unimog axles and 42 inch iroks

Well like he said he just wanted to test the waters on it. He obviously has had multiple people interested in it and he just recently posted it up for sale. Just from looking at a picture of the truck I can see at least 5k worth of after market accessories on it alone. That's excluding the fact that it is a v8 4wd with under 90k miles on it. I wouldn't bite on the first offer if it was my truck, especially if I wasn't sure I wanted to sell it. Look around at the market in the area, like I said, in my area it was very difficult to find a 4wd under 100k miles for less than 19k.

It's listed for sale with a price... either it's for sale or it's not. Not that a CL ad is binding but why waste people's time? He received a cash offer that was within $500 of his asking price and it's approximately $5k more than he paid for it a few months ago. Not sure what the problem is.

He's asking If its worth more than what he's listed it for. Just because someone offered him close to what he what he listed it for doesn't mean he's obligated to sell it to them. He said he's had multiple people interested in it so why settle for the first person to make him an offer? Maybe someone else will come along and offer more, you never know.

I sold maybe 5 cars on Craigslist and I will tell you do not beleive ANYONE on craigslist. They say they will give you $20k over the phone? If you beleive peoples word on CL than you are very naive. I had people say they would give me more money just so they can be the first person to look at my car.

So be very careful what people say on CL when selling your car.

My last vehicle that I sold was a 2002 Tacoma 4x4, with 80k miles for $13,000. These little tacos are hot.

I had people say they would give me more money just so they can be the first person to look at my car.

So be very careful what people say on CL when selling your car.

^^^This. Until you have a guy standing in front of you with a wad of cash, I wouldn't consider it a true offer. Otherwise $20k for that truck given the limited market would be a good deal for you based on what I've seen AND what you paid for the truck.

He's talking about the total height difference versus stock... suspension lift, body lift, and taller tires.

Probably 3" from suspension + 2" from the body lift + 2" from the bigger tires.

Apparently theres a history behind this truck that I wasn't aware of. I was just trying to offer my opinion on what I thought the truck was worth given the market that I purchased mine in.

I feel in most cases highly modified cars arent actually worth much more than blue book, if at all. Most people dont want to buy a car that they know has been worked on and modified and thus put through some abuse. If you can actually get $19000, good for you, but I feel that it is way overpriced for an 03 4runner, modified or not.

You decide what you want to sell it for. I'm the kind of guy that I figure out what I think a fair price is and first one with the money owns the vehicle but if you want to run your business differently and charge as much as you can, no matter the method, it's your call. Do what you think is right.

Generally modified vehicles don't get you much more and will sometimes get you less over stock. I've never, ever seen anyone get anything even close to what they put in to a vehicle that has $5-10k of mods. I'd never buy a modified vehicle since I love doing the mods myself and likely my taste is different so no way would I pay $7-10k over what the fair market value of that vehicle is in stock form.

Let your conscience be your guide.

I got it for 13,800 but seth gave it to me! damn near! He even let them do the IRS form on him for the cash at the bank because I brought over 9,999 dollars cash to pay off the loan

In sacramento and they bay area they go very fast everyone wants a jeep or toyota and they love the mods. It definitely ads value in some private party buyers opinion vs the dealer like them bone stock

The issue is I want to be the first IFS toyota and 4th Gen to Complete Soup Bowl at the Rubicon I just got some used 36 inch iroks off my 1st gen and I plan to do one or maybe two more rubicon trail trips before I sell her. Gotta have my fun with here before I pass her on But I feel 19.5 would be worth selling it for!

It's so funny that you say this because it's beyond true. I have sold close to 30 cars and 10 street bikes on craigslist I like to buy/sell when I find a deal. That being said I recently sold my 2001 Porsche Carrera Turbo 911 996(01-06) on craigslist I was asking 28k with 55k miles I picked it up for 20k from a friend in a mid life crisis for 21k he planed on buying it back but never did. I put the car up for 28k firm they go for 30-40k depending on mileage+mods I was lightly modded. But a gentlemen told me yeah Ill give you 28.5 firm I said no problem fly to sacramento get a rental car and drive to my house and the car is yours for 28k firm the guy showed up with 27k cash he was from arizona. I laughed at him and said have a nice flight home I sold it for 28.5k a week later an asian guy bought it didn't even test drive the car met me at the bank and cashed out when he saw how clean it was but I did a pre purchase inspection for him to look at from another prospecting buyer that backed out but had paid for the inspection.

its overall lift vs stock tires, body lift plus suspension....Im not hurting for cash so I don't like to come down on my prices. I also recently had a gentlemen drive to my warehouse all the way from LA because I have my Centurion Wakeboarding Boat for Sale on Craigslist for 22k and he came up with 20k cash thinking he would take the boat home...again I laughed at him and said have a nice drive home you just wasted your whole day and 300 bucks in gas! Thats what you get for being a low baller...read my craigslist ad for my boat the part at the end gets them every time!
