Putting her to work

Hello all! I have an opportunity to do some sub-contracting and I'll need my 3gen 4 Runner to help me with that work. In particular, I need to be able to carry an 14' commercial extension ladder, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that. The best I can figure it to try and buy a roof rack for it but the ladder will have to clear the rear door canopy (where the break light is located). I trust that the roof can handle the weight. I don't anticipate having to put anything else other than the ladder on the roof. It would be helpful to have a rack system that allows you to lock in the ladder (as well as lashing it down).

Any helpful thoughts, greatly appreciated.

Yakima bars, completely modular. You could easily strap the ladder down with ratchet straps, or clamp on little side stops and some sort of bungee or pull down straps. You can get a bar on control towers in the rear and a bar on q towers all the way up at the front to support the ladder evenly.

Since a 18' extension ladder is only 9' long when collapsed I don't think you'r going to have any problems with a rack or Yakima bars . I have a Surco rack that I made my own low mounts for and any thing sitting on it clears the back door . I also made a stand that bolts on my ARB bumper and supports long stuff like my canoe . The other day our work truck with a ladder rack wouldn't start ( it's a 93 toyota with 489,000 miles on it and this was the first time it failed to start . ) so I put the front stand on and carried a heavy duty 32 ' aluminum ladder on the 4Runner ,.
