Putting together a "recovery" kit

Wanted to get some opinions from you guys on what you carry. I picked up an SUV cargo box from Lowes today to hold all of my recovery/wheeling gear. Below is what I have so far, what should I add?

- OW heavy duty compressor
- tire pressure gauge
- Tuff Stuff deflators
- full tire patch and valve stem kit
- Kobalt 130 piece tool kit (1/4 and 1/2 drive, box wrenches up to 17mm, screwdriver with heads)
- Kobalt needle nose, regular pliers, and sidecuts
- Kobalt 12ton 18.5" lift bottle jack
- a handful of ratchet straps for strapping things to the rack
- 5gal water jug
- three pairs of Mechanix gloves (keep anyone helping from beating up their hands, not just mine)

I already plan on adding these things as well
- Heavy duty zip ties
- Electrical tape and various electrical fittings and wires
- Headlight bulbs
- Heavy duty recovery straps
- Windproof Zippo lighter
- Heavy duty garbage bags

I currently do not have a winch, and I doubt at this point that I will add one in the near future. We normally go out by ourselves, but only up to level 5-6 maximum trails (on TrailDamage's 1-10 scale) and I take the bypasses if I get worried. Most of our wheeling is back into areas where we are camping, not so much rock crawling.

Here is everything strapped in as of now. Not fancy like ARB drawers, but I have a third row that I sometimes have to use. The water jug is a bit smashed in there so it is held tight, but I do not like it being rigged up like that so I may buy a thinner jug like this one:

Whoops, have the gloves already.

Why garbage bags? To use as a tarp to stay out of the dirt and catch dropped bolts and such I assume?

I am a firm beliver in sods law, if something is going to happen it's going to be in the rain or in the mud or in a piece of dirt 2 ft from a fire ants nest. AND like you said to keep you clean and not drag the dirt back into your truck.

I carry a shovel in my trailer currently, but I am not always pulling that. I will be adding a shovel/axe mount to my rack in the near future so that will be covered. I already carry a mag light, I have a mount for it that I need to install back there. I have a blanket in the back that my dog lays on, and my daughter always carries a blanket when she is in the truck. I will add insect repellent and a windproof lighter as that requires very little real estate in the box.

Aside of recovery strap and couple of shackles I have a cable puller (and tree protector) as a last resort, hope that I would never have to use it : )

I have thought about one of those, seems it would work in the same manner as a Hi-Lift, but far less dangerous.

I've been wondering about this lately. I am planning a trip to Gulches in SC late september early october and have been slowly buying up some stuff. Here is what I have so far.

-48" High-Lift Jack
-A hand full of shackles (Amazon has ARB shackles for ~10 each)
-Gerber Camp axe
-Camp shovel
-Good bit of Zip Ties

On the list:
straps, snatch strap, tire deflators, compressor, tire repair kit, tree saver strap, fire starter supplies, first aid kit, gloves, some light camping gear, hi-lift offroad base, some basic tools, LED flashlight, extra batteries, electrical tape, work gloves, and a set of cowhide gloves.

Sure there's probably something I'm forgetting, and dang my list is longer then I thought. I've got some work to do before my trip I reckon.

Forgot to mention, this stuff will be carried all the time. Not just for our outings. Probably never need half of it, but better safe than sorry.

You may want to consider 18. 19 & 22 mm as well.

I think I am going to add the sockets, not sure if I would need the box wrenches. The kit only went up to 17mm that I bought, but I can easily add in larger sizes as the bag they came in has plenty of free space.

You do realize that your probably going to end up getting a trailer to put all this stuff in now....LOL Great thread

How is a hi-lift dangerous in the winching configuration?

In winching, its not really. It was more of if I am going to carry something that takes that much space I would have to use it for both purposes, and I am not too keen on a high lift as a jack. Most of that is that I have never been shown to properly use one in person. I have watched the videos, but I am a hands on type of guy.
