Let me guess, your "attempt" at trying to be funny.

Do what you want but I change mine at every oil change, which is once a year. $4 isn't going to break my pockets. I guess for certain lil V6 guys it might.

Our shop recommends it every 3yr or 36k. OEM cost at retail is about $8-12 for the valve. Ive never personally believed in the valve replacement, since i replaced it i dont see any performance difference.

I agree with this.

The pcv is just a one-way mechanical valve. It is not tied to the ecu or anything, so no warning lights will be triggered if it fails. To test if its working, take it off and try to blow through it from both ends. It should allow airflow in only one direction.
 
Couldn't you remove, spray some cleaner through it and check for operation?

It's a simple one way valve that usually only 'fails' when it clogs.

I would do it every 36,000.

If you recently bought it and dont know when it was done, go ahead and do it.


And as far as the guy who does it every oil change.....and only changes his oil once a year...well yeah you see what I am saying.
 
Pvc & 4.7l

Does anyone have the PN for the PVC valve for the 4.7L? Also the PN for the in-line fuel filter? Mine has 100,305M on it and I have never changed it let alone know if it has ever been changed.


Little behind the power curve.

Yeah, you probably could as long as the cleaner doesn't damage the internals.

If you want to be preventative, you could replace this every 60k or so. This valve DOES get clogged and will fail because of this. This will cause extra pressure to build up inside the engine which will cause some or ALL the seals to leak on the engine. Keep in mind, this usually gets clogged because of oil gunk build up due to infrequent oil changes.

When you do remove it just shake it. If you hear something clicking (sliding up and down) then its still good.

In the late 90s and early 2000s this was a big issue for toyota, But they have since redesigned things and its not so much of an issue any more.
