I just bought one on Saturday. I love it. Anyways, and I know this is a stupid question, but is the back window supposed to go up AND down via the remote or just down? I can get it down, but I have to turn on the vehicle's electronic system before it will go back up again, and it won't go up using the remote at all. Is this normal? And if so, why?

Yep it's normal, as to why i don't know. I think it's kind of stupid that it doesnt go up by remote, cant really think of a reason as to why they left that out. You can put the key in (the back) and hold the key in the lock position and the window goes up, still kind of inconvenient.Grimes said:

The general purpose of the rear window remote button is so you can easily roll down the window to put stuff in the back (shopping bags or whatever) with the assumption you would then be getting into the vehicle and leaving. It is not perfect for every instance but it can come in handy. It's a design limitation but I think a reasonable one. Having another button on the remote would just clutter it up. Personally, I would just as well open the tailgate and forget the window button altogether.

I find that by the time I have the hold the button down for 3 seconds, then wait another 2 seconds for the window to roll down, and then finally roll it up again with the key, I could have just unlocked the hatch, open it, throw stuff inside, shut the hatch, lock the vehicle in a fraction of the time.
As far as the safety issue goes, I think sometimes Toyota just goes a little too far and a bit inconsistent. My 4Runner has auto up and down windows, but the rear window and the sunroof does not close on its own. In fact, with the sunroof, I have to hold the close button, then the sunroof stops halfway through, then I have to press the button again in order to close it. When I asked why it's set up like this, they said for safety issues. When I asked why the windows were auto up, they didn't have an answer. Weird.
I've used the rear window down button and it was pretty useful. But I'd much prefer the tailgate set up like the Land Cruisers. I've always got basketballs or groceries falling out when I lift up the hatch. With the LC's, you can lift up the hatch, but the tailgate holds in anything that's been rolling around in the cargo area. It's not a huge deal, but would've been nice.

Do you have a 4th gen? If so, sounds like the rear glass and moonroof wasn't normalized after the battery was disconnected or the dealer never set it up during PDI. My rear glass and moonroof will close all the way without stopping in the middle.
My uncle's '92 Camry moonroof does that stop in the middle thing when closing it from fully slide open.

My rear window goes down own it's own after you hold it for about 2 or so seconds without having to hold it the whole way down. Nice feature for the summer time to help quickly vent out some heat. Only goes back up from the outside by using the key in the tailgate lock. Wish there was a feature like VW/Audi/Mercedes has where you can just hold the unlock and everything will open; hold lock and everything closes. Pretty convenient feature.
