Question about adding seat heaters

Yesterday I test-drove a 2012 Trail that was, short of not having heated seats, exactly the 5th gen I’m looking for. I’m asking the salesman if they could add seat heaters prior to sale, he said they can— but not to the butt/lower cushion of the passenger side, as retrofitting the heating pad itself will interfere with the airbag sensor.

Any truth to this? Wouldn’t be surprised to hear it’s BS— someone please verify. Thanks!

Check with your local vehicle upfitters. They probably have a better reputation and more experience with heated seat upgrades. If going aftermarket, go with a waterproof style. They cost about $10 extra for the raw material. Expect an installer to up that price a little. Everyone has overhead.

Don’t have Toyota install them. They install generic seat heaters like the ones on ebay. Go to an upholsterer and have them install OEM quality heaters and switches.

They are easy to install. Buy the kits off ebay and watch a couple YouTube videos. I have installed them in front and rear seats of most of my vehicles.
