Question about engine lights/not starting

Hi guys,

I just found this place searching for some quick answers to my problem. I assume the answer most will give is to take it to the dealer to plug it in, but I wanted to see if anyone has come across this problem before and could help.

It's an '07 4Runner...When I put my key in but before I turn it all the way over my entire dashboard will light up blinking and make a terrible grinding noise that sounds like I'm trying to turn it on with a dead battery, but I'm not turning the key. When I do try and start the engine, it all goes black and the battery won't even click. If I let it sit for about 30 seconds the rest of the lights will quit blinking and the only ones that stay on are the ABS and VSC TRAC lights. I've heard of people having problems with those lights staying on for no reason, but never to the point where it will keep the car from starting.

I had it taken to a mechanic a couple weeks ago to fix a broken gas tank sensor and they also replaced my brake pads and did some more routine brake work. Could they have done something that would cause this two weeks later? I've driven it every day for 3 years and never had a real problem and after spending a grand on it just two weeks ago, I'm not pumped about hooking it up and doing that all over again.

They mighta clipped your front abs sensor wires ? Check there 1st not sure what the grinding might be haven't heard that before ?

Yeah, I'm completely clueless on that as well. It sounds like I'm trying to crank it with a dead battery but the key's just sitting there. It makes the grinding clicking noise as all the whole dash blinks.

I'm thinking they had to have knocked a wire loose a couple weeks ago and it's just now come all the way undone. I know next to nothing about cars though, so I have no idea.

Well to give an update....still not sure what was wrong with it. I was scared to jump it off last night because I didn't think it was the battery but we finally did and it started right up. Went back to it 2 hours later and it started fine. Woke up early this morning to check and it started fine again. So if anyone else runs across this problem, not sure what to tell you about all the flashing lights, just jump it off.
