Question about fuel injectors

Hi,
I have a 97 4cyl 4runner with 208k miles. I'm going to put new fuel injectors in it for the first time. The ones that came in the mail have this rubber ring on the bottom of them (see pic). I'm just wondering what these rubber rings are all about? They were not in the pic of the injector when I bought it. My old injectors don't have this rubber ring either. It looks like it could slide off kind of easily. Am I supposed to remove it before I install these new injectors in my car? Probably a stupid question i know...Thanks!

look into the manifold. maybe they are stuck in there? im pretty sure u need to seat the injector and that rubber gasket seats it?
 
I thought I needed injectors because I keep getting a misfire in cyl 4. I replaced the spark plugs & wires and that fixed it for a month or so. Then it started up again, so I did an ohm test on the distributor cap for cycl 4, and found that wasn't up to par, so I replaced that thing. Still misfired. So I thought maybe the injectors are clogged up, and ran seafoam through the vacuum lines. Thing ran smooth as butter but still misfired, even though I couldn't tell anymore. Luckily on the 4cyl the injectors are very easy to get to. So I pulled the cyl 4 injector out, it looked like crap, and moved it to another cyl. Sure enough the code followed it. its been quite an adventure.
 
This reason why asked is because my 4runner V6 is doing 16-17 MPG at around 75 MPH. It used to do about 20 MPG. for a long run... this is pretty significant.

I replaced spark plugs(OEM), NGK wires, Shell or Chevron gas all the time. Same tires then and now...
So my last option is the injectors.
Is there a place to get these cleaned and calibrated?

I bought mine off partsgeeks, best deal I could find. Only about $30 an injector for refurbished ones. I have a 4cyl so it didn't break the bank. You send them your old injectors when your done, and they refurbish/resell them. I've seen youtube videos of guys who hook a AA battery up to a few wires and clean out their injectors that way. But mine looked pretty crappy, so I just opted to buy new ones.
 
Mission complete, car runs smooth now. Yeah I saw the old rubber o rings in the fuel injector slots and picked them out. I changed the fuel filter while I was at it, I have that nightmare fuel injector that's under the intake manifold. There was just barely enough room for me to reach a wrench in there to get it out, it was a pain. I hate working on this 4runner, the engine is a horrible design, everything in there is so tight, I can't get a wrench on anything.

I just did all of mine last night on the 3.4. Not easy but not to hard either. Even with air tools it still took some time. I had some of the same issues you had but the root cause was a cracked plug. Glad the 4runner is running smoothly now.
