Today I tried to diagnois a P0446 code that kept popping up. I tested all the VSVs and then the charcoal canister... all being with in spec of the FSM.
I decided to trace the hoses to be sure they were hooked up in the correct location. For whatever reason (luck?) I pinched the air inlet hose to find a very hard obstruction. Not knowing what it could be, I removed the hose and cut the section of the hose out. To my disbelief, I found a mass of charcoal that had found itself a home about a foot from the air cleaner.

Would a clogged hose from the air filter to the charcoal canister cause a P0446 code? How about very poor gas mileage?
Also, what would cause the air inlet hose to become clogged with charcoal?

If all is true, for the people battling an EVAP code, you may want to check your hoses for charcoal obstructions...
