Question | Bilstein 5100's for leveling

.85 + Toytec (1/4" spacer)

Has anyone does this. I have my SR5 set at .85 and the rear rake is little high for the look I want. If we had a Toytec 1/4" spacer which supposedly give us 1/2" lift it would put it at about 1.35". Seems this would be pretty close to perfet with .85 too low, 1.75 too high. Any thoughts or knowledge of this being done?

I absolutely agree. Wish there was a setting at the ~1.25 level.
Wonder if a competent shop could score a clip seat at that height in the shock body?

Interested to hear anymore comments too....

I'm waiting for the front shocks to come in. I have the rears ( not installed yet). But the only question I have is did anyone here, and I think I have read every post concerning this, gain anything on the rear? Anything at all ? 1/4, 3/16 just from going with Bilsteins set at .85 in the front with Bilsteins in the rear ?

All I gained was the exaggerated driver's side lean.

You will gain a little height in the rear with the Bilsteins, but only until they settle. After a few days the rear height will return to normal.

If you want to raise the rear you need spacers or springs. Airbags will lift the rear slightly as well but will compromise the ride while unloaded.

There are few things more pitiful to see or hear than the constant echo of a disgruntled customer........

I know I have suggested twice and asked at least once without response. Have you run at least the first full tank through it yet? It has been what, 10 days since you picked it up? How many miles?

Sorry mom, didn't know every comment you made demanded a response. Yes, I've put a tank through. Don't understand how that's basically going to fix it. I don't suspect shocks will settle that much like replacing springs. So sorry to annoy you and ruin your day. And yeah, I'm disgruntled. Sorry, but $800 isn't just chump change to me. Now I have to spend more to fix the lean issue.

Nope. But it is nice when a question is specifically asked if it is answered. Kind of like we were trying to do to help you out. The suggestion to run a full tank through it was to put some miles on the suspension, make it work, and see if that settled the springs and shocks. Your first post about this problem was like 2 days after you picked it up from the installation. It is not outside the realm of possibility that you would still have more than a half tank 10 days later. For all I know you have a 4 mile commute to work or are afraid to drive it for fear it will fall over on it's left side from the 1/2" list.

I don't either, but stranger things have happened. And I feel your pain about the money spent. My identical setup ran me $1100 to accomplish where I am. But I felt that pain for you a week ago. It started getting tedious after the 5th or 6th post basically saying the same thing with different words. I just think that until you actually get it into a shop and have a tech look at it we have reached the end of being able to assist you. It's become a broken record. Or in more modern terms you are flogging a dead horse. :deadhorse:

Rest assured, henceforth I shall place you in ignore mode as you can also do for me. :ohwell:

Thanks. Just what I needed to know.

Actually it can be harsher. Unless you need to haul something heavy or do some serious off-roading, why go LT if you can get the same exact tire in a P? Most likely a little cheaper in a P too. LT's max out on psi between 60 and 80 lbs depending on they tire and P's are somewhere around 35psi max. You don't think the ride will be harsher? I just finally wore out the LT KO's the previous owner had on my 3rd gen. Put some P metric Goodyears on it and it's night and day difference.

I am about to put tires in my 5G and am definitely staying with P's. Have no uses or reasons to go with LT's on mine. On one website, the tire I want is $39 each less expensive for the P version vs. the LT.

If you want less nose dive, the stiffer sidewall will help.

Load Range C LT265/70/17 tires, such as the Cooper AT3's, or BFG AT KO2's maximum air pressure is 50 lbs. (I run 38 lbs in mine)

The tread depth is usually a little deeper on a LT tire vs a P metric.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I've been reading a ton of threads and regarding 5100s 1.75 vs 2.5 settings. I have a 12 red TE... 5100s will go on all corners. I'm thinking 2.5 setting in the front and also bought a 1.5 daystar for the rear. My tires are 285/60/18 on method roost bronze. Is this a good set up?? Really wish I would have posted before I dropped all this cash. Thanks!!

Go through the lifted pics thread, there are a bunch of trucks with the lift setups you are talking about. Also search "5th Gen" 2.5 1.5 daystar.

Here are some of the links you will get.

Thanks brother. I think I may be leaning towards the 1.75 setting with the 1.5 daystar. I would like to maintain some rake... I feel that if I wanted to go 2.5, then I should really get 1.5" springs instead of spacers. Thanks!!

Need a 2nd Eye

I recently had a guy at a mechanic shop help install bilstein 5100s on my sr5, front and back, with a daystar 1.5" spacer in the rear. I wanted the 1.75" setting for the front. For some reason I think that maybe they went to the .85. Can someone look at the pics and let me know what they think? I can't tell what notch they went to. I dont' want to deal with those guys again. I was super clear on which setting I wanted. I didn't expect such a large rake.

(dont know how to rotate image. left side is top. There's one notch exposed as you can see.

hard to tell but it looks like they went to the 3rd notch. Even at 1.75" you would have rake with a 1.5" spacer. I have the front set to 2.25" and a 1.5" spacer out back and it is pretty level.

lukeskywalker,

Did you take any measurements before they did your lift?
If so, what is the difference I the measurements?

If not, take measurements currently and post what your front and rear measurement are, someone with a stock or lifted T4R should be able to help you figure it out.

BTW, mine is lifted 2" in the front, stock rear height.

How do you like the ride with it set like this

i have a similar setup (1.75" front, 1" rear spacer lift, stock springs) i can confirm that the shop did set your front 5100's at the 3rd (1.75") notch. looking at my shocks I can see the upper circlip notch exposed same as yours. by the numbers your setup only reduces overall rake by 0.25" so based on your pic i think the results you got are what should be expected. here's a view of the 1.75"/1" profile for comparison
