Question - Locked out of vehicle while it is running

How much energy does the vehicle plug in use? On my Diesel, the few times I've plugged it in I did do so an hour before leaving the house. I recall it used 7amps. Running that for 13hrs seems not necessary. Remote start would help avoid theft. Don't use the Toyota remote start. Go aftermarket.

Current usage should reduce as the expected temperature is reached. These heaters should be self regulating.

The northern hemisphere is warming up now that it’s spring, but here’s a trick to try to warm up a frozen door lock. With a flame (lighter, match, etc) heat up your key blade, being careful not to melt the plastic if any. Quickly insert it into the lock and gently try to open the lock. Leave it in that position to transfer as much heat as possible to the lock innards. Maybe 5 seconds. Remove the key and quickly repeat. After several attempts it should warm up and turn the lock mechanism. I’ve never had to try this on my 4R, but it worked on other cars in freezing east coast weather.

I know this is an older post but one I find interesting. Last Dec. I was hunting in NC and the morning I was leaving it was chilly so I remote started it. After I loaded all my stuff I put the key in the ignition and turned it to run, closed the door and went in to last check the cabin. When I went back out all of the doors had auto locked with the keys in the ignition and engine running. Aaaaaaaarrrgghh! It was 4:00 in the morning but I called the outfitter because his dad owns a body shop and I hoped they had a slim jim or something. He's a great guy and 15 minutes later he rolled up with a wedge and a long bar that he got in there and hit the door unlock button. NICE! I guess the car thought I was in there and locked the doors automatically. I'll never do that again!

I have never had an issue but when I am getting out of the 4runner with it running I always lower the window enough so that I can reach in and either manually unlock the door or roll the window down all the way to reach in and shut it off. I do not want to be stranded especially when alone off road someplace.

It actually happened to me at the dealer today. I was at the maintenance appointment, when they were done called me to give me my car, went to get in the car and was locked, key fob inside. 2019 Limited. I was under the impression you couldn’t lock doors with key fob inside. They didn’t know what to do and on top tried to blame it on me!
They offered a ride home to get my spare (30-minute drive), and just before leaving, I remembered I had the Viper app and used it to unlock it.
Any idea why it locked?

Sorry I missed this, I don’t always log in when on this site. When the remote battery starts to go it will do weird things like allow you to lock. The doors also relock if you unlock but don’t open a door, I’ve never played with it to see if there is a sequence that would allow you to lock. Perhaps using the manual button on the door might allow. I may try that sometime. I have used the door button to lock when the fob wasn’t handy when sleeping in the truck while camping with other people close by a couple times.

It’s hard to lock the truck while sleeping in the RTT as the puddle lights can come on during the night which is annoying so the proximity sensor is a bit weird.
