Question on coolant interval - time vs mileage

hey guys,

my last coolant job was a flush I did at the dealer on 9/10/13 at 212k.

Believe it or not, I still haven't racked up 30k miles since that date due to not driving the truck much

Is there a risk to corrosion based on just time going by (more than 2 years now), or can I wait out my 30,000 mile coolant interval?

I plan to just do a drain and fill next, not a flush... but i'm nearing 230k now and the 30k interval in my case is 242k. it will take a while more.

A friend of mine is a farmer. A high-tech, state of the art farmer. He's all about machinery.

He tests his oil, he tests his coolant. He tests his hydraulic fluid. He tests everything. He even tests the coolant in his wife's FJ.

What he's found is that the coolant in his combines, his Iveco trucks, his Petes, is badly degraded after 5 years. 5 years. The coolant in the FJ is still like new after that time. It's Toyota coolant - red. It ought to be good - it's $30/gallon at the dealer. It looks to be worth it - the stuff is as stable as a table.

If what you have is red Toyota coolant, I think you're OK to leave it in there for a few years.

Your farmer friend sounds pretty awesome. Less and less farmer's in todays world.
