Questions about speaker quality

So we've got our new (to us) '00 4Runner SR5 4x4; and it's a foregone conclusion that we'll be putting a sound system in it. At the LEAST I will be upgrading all speakers (not sure if I'll mess with the tweeters in the front), and I will probably install a sub as well.

My question is this - while I know what 'good' speakers are, I'd like the best bang for the buck; and I'm not sure who has 'cheapened' their speaker lines, who's gotten better, etc. (For instance, I've noticed that Focal has finally 'cheapened' their speaker lines a bit.) I'll probably pay around $100/pair. I've looked at Memphis, Infiniti, Polk Audio, etc. My listening tastes are pretty varied, but it's probably a 33/33/33 split between R&B/hip hop, metal/hard rock, and some electronic.

I was thinking about upgrading mine. I hooked up a Alpine deck and a 12' sup with 500w amp. Im happy with my speakers, I can hear the tweeters and sound quality is really good.

Give them a listen after a different deck and adding some bass. If your going to do that anyways its easier then taking apart the doors.

It's already got a different deck (Kenwood Excelon KDC-X494) and while it's definitely better, suffice to say that it still needs plenty of improvement.

I just put all Polk audio in mine that are just powered by the deck (50X4) and 2 10" subs with a bridged 200X4 amp. I put a 12" in first but really did not like the sound quality. Too much deep bass and too slow. The 2- 10"s sound about perfect.

the alpine 600 series 6.25 /tweeter components up front and the 500 coaxles 5.25 in the rear doors linked to a scion 1808 HU. 00' limited:fro:

Try some auditor from focal. Otherwise get the krx series. I do love my k2ps.
