Those bomber awning locks look nice, maybe we should try to get a group buy set up for those.

Not the cheapest solution, but definitely the strongest and could be taken on & off fairly quick with a 10mm ratchet. *Depending on skill-set using hand-tools

I strongly advise unless you intend to mount it & only use in a "stationary" scenario? (ie. not driving with it mounted) Use something that is strong. The amount of force your awning experiences at 65-80 mph is tremendous. Ask me how I know? I had a grade 8 bolt shear off while driving home from the mountains, leaving my awning hanging off the side of my truck on the 405 :fear:

The awning is literally a big sail on the side of your truck while driving. The longer the awning, the bigger the area wind will use as leverage to "rip off". Avoid anything quick-fist - rubber is definitely going to get someone killed if that thing flys off while you are commuting.

The bomber product looks nice, but $200 is not within the rhelm of possibility. As far as the force generated, I as am am sure other throw a 6x6 on the roof rack and hold it down with a couple of cheap bungie cords. The front cross section is about the same as my ARB. I just can't wrap my head about how you can shear a grade 8 bolt of any size off holding something on the roof rack considering the whole roof rack is held on with 8 cheap grade 5 bolts. The shear strength of a grade 8 bolt is between 90,000 and 150,000 psi.

I was pondering the same thing, possibly I got a bad bolt in the batch? It was sheared clean coming home, I looked to my left in disbelief then asked myself.. What the hell can I do get this home! That is when I remembered I had some industrial large zip-ties in my travel tool bag. Was a sketchy rest of the ride home. I assume, someone could replicate the Bomber Mounts for a lot less-

I posted this in another awning thread but I made compression fit mounts for my Yakima bars and mounted the awning up with those. I have done 8k miles with it up there and about 2k at 75-80 on the Interstate. Two 10mm nuts and it is off.
