Quick help! We are stuck!

We are at a wheeling/camping rally out near Heber AZ and my shock mount bolt came loose and the shock popped off. I believe that this is a universal bolt for other vehicles so I may be able to find one up here, can anyone confirm? If it isn't, any Phoenix people want to make some cash and have some beer and camping for bringing one from Toyota so we can get home Sunday?!?!

I do not know if that is 100% right, but based on the linked diagram is the universal part number for all 2011 models, good luck.

hopefully something can be jerry-rigged to get you back onto pavement.

Take the shock off, put a little more air in the bag on that side so it's not so "floaty" and drive out. That is if you don't get a new bolt by sunday.

If you have tools, just remove that shock. Or tie it up out of the way of moving parts. You'll be fine driving it home. Just stay in the slow lane and take your time. No jerky movements of the steering wheel. One shock will control the rear of the truck. Really not that big of a deal.

I back tracked and couldn't find it. I'm not sure how a hitch pin would work. I thought of taking the shock off but I am towing a 3000# camper. Would it still be okay?

Can someone look at the bolts on theirs and verify if there is a gap between the shock and shock bolt? The other side has a gap and I thought it was also backing out but it will not tighten up any more than it is.

tie the shock out of the way or remove it completely if there is.

I would say to tie the shock up and have someone tow the trailer to pavement for you or follow you to the dealer if they really wanted to. Looks like the nearest dealer is 37 miles away from downtown Herber.

The truck would hold, but towing I think would not be worth the risk to you, or other people on the road.

Calling my FIL in the morning and maybe he can bring me the bolt, or tow my trailer and haul my girls home so if something happens its just me.

As said, it'll drive fine with a missing shock as long as you're careful. Drive to the nearest parts store, get your goodies, then go back for your trailer.

all a shock does is keep a spring from bouncing - air up that bag (limiting spring travel) and head home on the back roads limiting 45mph till you can find a hardware store and rig something up. You can even rig a tie down for down travel if your worried.

a lot of people on the road with blown shocks don't kill other peoples girls everyday.

Listen to the guys. in the past I have driven several miles with more important things than a shock missing or damaged from my vehicle. Go slow. At the end of the day you have bump stops should all else fail. Take it off, test drive it for several hundred yards and then decide. Just go slower than normal. After you get back we will start a thread on "Getting back with parts missing" or something.
