Quick question about Daystar 2.5/2

Hi All,

I just recently pickup an '08 4Runner Sport Edition V8 4WD w/ XREAS. I love this truck.
This forum is the greatest resource - Did the HID replacement

I was planning to pickup the Daystar 2.5/2 lift kit from Wheeler's Offroad.
Planning to just used up the stock tires - 265/65/17 for now
It's my DD and on weekends occasionally go camping/fishing and wanted a little clearance for the body and would like it leveled.

Question: With the Daystar 2.5/2 lift, will the runner look "funny" - "donut tires" ????
or should I just install only the 1.25 part of the front lift for now 'til later I install new tires when I wear down the stock.

What do you guys think??? .........any pics with Daystar 2.5/2 on stock tires 265/65/17 ???

I think it would look "funny" either with the stock tires or with the front portion installed only.

I would have to recommend to remove the factory tires as close as possible while the vehicle is new and sell them while they have maximum value. I sold my five factory tires with less than 300 miles on them (within the first tank of gas). Why keep them for a few years if you wont be happy with them?

The DS kit no longer has two seperate front lift components, it is now all topout or "Easy Install" as they call it.

I very tight on funds right now...... I might just install the 1.25" spacers to just level the truck for now
And maybe in a year or two , I'll get new tires with the Daystar lift

Well it would be less than 2% of the cost of the new truck to upgrade and sell the old tires. If it was a factory option for 1.75% of the trucks cost would you have checked that box?

Also, to get the DS 1.5" you need to find someone selling the old style kit. The new one is 100% topout.

I would go for the Cornfed over the Daystar, I am not for the one spacer approach they are now taking

I would have to agree but must say I wish their preload wasnt as big as it is to conserve factory ride quality.

I have the DS 1.5 leveling spacers for sale. It's new in the bag with the supplied extended bolts. I'l ship it to you for $40. You would spend ~$50 from Wheeler's Offroad. I know b/c that is were I got them. I'll put the receipt in the box.

I'm selling it b/c I am going to purchase a coilover set.

Thanks for all you comments.
I need clarification on this: Wheeler's Off road still have a 1.25" lift front coil spacer for 39.95 - either the "on top" or under the upper coil support plate and preloads the coil". If I get the "under" one - that should level my runner with preload - I want a little preload cause at high speed 80-90 mph - I feel the truck floats a liitle, not use to this compared to me old "90 runner.

What do you guys think?? .... about installing - my friend can instll it for me - he's a mechanic and installed all my previous stuff on my '90 runner

The pic is from Wheelers and not DS, correct.

If Wheelers has the old style stuff in stock, great, snatch it up, it is a great kit. Otherwise the pic is out of date as DS now supplies "easy install" topout only kits if you order with the KT09115BK part #.

I know the pic is still on their site, you would have to call them as many companies simply drop ship direct from the manufacturer anyway. DS just changed the kit recently so if they stock the DS kits them may have a few left. But again you would have to call to be sure.

Why do you think they changed the design? It couldnt be solely for the "easy installation"... You think they may have found a design flaw? possibly over-extension during rebound on trails?

Definately keep us(ME) posted as I'm looking to level mine out and was looking at the DS kit. But if they changed it then I may just pony up for C/O's later on down the road. The older kit seems better due to reasons JA mentioned in the past. The new "easy" topout kit doesn't seem to be the best route.

I think it is purely for marketing purposes. The mass market want something quick and easy to install, no messing around with dangerous coil spring compressors, etc. Personally I wouldnt buy them being 100% top out and I dont like CF as they have too much preload. I prefer the old DS kit as it had a great combo of topout and preload.

Yes if it is the old kit it is a great deal, I paid around 265 for mine.

I just purchased mine from wheelers offroad about a week ago. it was 165 shipped I think. Just go with the 2.5", it really doesn't look that odd, actually I don't think anyone would notice. I have the old version btw, so they must still be in stock.

CF 3/2 is primarily Preload, DS was primarily topout, now 100% topout. Therefore CF would stiffen up the ride more, but not allow as much droop.

The 1" CF front leveling only kit is all topout.
