Quick question regarding certified 4runner

Hey 5th Gen Owners,

I was wondering if you guys can tell me if what my parents are about to get is a good deal or not. It is a 2011 Certified Toyota 4runner Limited 4WD in Blizzard Pearl with tan leather interior. It doesn't have navigation but does have 3rd row seats. What made me/my parents interested in this car is that it has approximately 2,800 miles on it. It is being sold by a toyota dealership in another city 4 hours away.

Price was 38,000 + TTL but I got them down to 36,000 + TTL

So yeah, please let me know what you guys think. I am probably going to head there today with my parents but would appreciate ya'lls opinion. Thanks so much!

I just paid 40k for a 2012 LE with JBL and power running boards (MSRP was $44,580) 2800 miles is a non-issue. I think the low mileage LE's get traded because of the ride quality (IMO) I like it but I could see how some would not.
 
Oh, really? I thought some people liked the limited because of the X-REAS and how the SR5 was prone to nose diving with sudden braking. I guess it's a matter of if you want to upgrade your suspension (ICONs, etc.) with SR5's and if you want to keep it stock with Limiteds. Thanks so much regarding your opinion, I guess you're stating that the price I am getting isn't so bad?

I don't think it sounds bad at all. As for the existence of a relatively new LE (2800 miles) for trade, that is why I commented on the ride. I have seen more low mileage LE's on lots than any other T4R. There has to be a reason and ride quality is all I could come up with. People looking at "SUV's" in that price range and mistakingly believe the T4R LE is competition for the Acura MDX, Infinity Q series whatever.
We all know and love our TR4's but for reasons "some" may not share.
I love my ride/handling of my LE.
 
I'd want to talk to the previous owner, just to ask why they traded it. The dealer might balk - but I'd insist. Might be no big deal, then again .....
 
That is really good actually, for $36. I got the Same exact thing with nav for 37' 14k miles on her. If they can far them to drop the "certified" and get it even cheaper, I would do that and just buy the extended warranty.

The extended warranty is superior to what the "cetrtified pre owned" would cost you. If I would to do it again, I wouldn't buy a cope.

Most LE owners actually enjoy the ride of the LE. I myself enjoy the XREAS and many others do as well. Some don't find it usefull for offroad purpose, I'm sure that's not what your parents are looking for

I LOVE the ride/handling of the LE. I just can't figure out why I have seen 3-4
5th Gen LE's on the lot with rediculously low mileage.
Usually when that happens it's because the buyer didn't do their homework and went "Wut" I got my 2010 TRD Fj that way, had 2800 miles and the guy traded it for a mini-van, that is a big "Wut".

$36 is a decent deal since these things really hold their value. True about buyers thinking they're getting a unibody SUV.

Remember, "CERTIFIED" does not mean it has never had any paint work or panels replaced. Acura for example, allows up to two body panel replacements. As long as the VIN ID tag remains!!

I would get a thorough check out on CARFAX and AutiCheck, and have a good body guy inspect it for any and all paintwork. If there's any (no biggie) you can probably knock another 2 grand off.
 
Alright gentlemen, dealer made a big mistake. Willing to offer me limited 2013 for 37 grand...i should definitely jump right?

Good luck with that... most dealers include a line on their disclosure form during the trade that asks why the vehicle was traded, but that is probably all you are going to get.

The previous owner is under no onbligation what may be months down the road to have a conversation with a prospective buyer, and in fact the dealership is probably bound to not disclose another customers information to a prospective customer...
 
sounds like a good deal to me. Certified Toyotas are covered as well if not better than new. My dealership offered a lifetime powertrain warranty and no cost...
 
No they didn't, the dealership was really sketchy. They told me they sold the 4runner when we got there (4 hours away). However, since the buyers had bad credit, they might take the 4runner back since they already handed them the keys the night before. To make the matter worse, we found out that the mileage was actually 27,XXX not 2,777. The autotrader odometer picture showed 2777 and so did the actual content of the page. But when we got there, apparently it had 27k miles. :wtf: We were all furious. Anyway, dealer tried to give us some deals on 2013 4runners but none fit the criteria of what my parents wanted (some weren't limited, some did not have 4wd, etc.). So we argued, my parents got really upset, and eventually we just left for home. So no, we did not purchase the certified 4runner.

But something interesting has come up today, that 4runner is back on autotrader, with a decreased price (about 3000 from the original on autotrader) and with the correct mileage (27,XXX). So now I'm curious as to what the hell is going on. I called the dealership manager on Monday and left a message today. His call is still pending, of course.
 
DO NOT go back to that dealer....this sounds way to fishy to me. Do you still have the original Auto Trader Ad's (Photos) showing the so called incorrect mileage of 2,777? (The term Bait and Switch comes to mind) I know Texas does not take kindly to false and or misleading advertising. I think they hang the perpetrators....(of course in Texas, they hang just about any criminal...I am not complaining mind you, just stating the facts..) If you do, I would find the govt consumer protection office or whatever they call it in Texas and report this Dealer. At the very least, they should have reimbursed your gas and time for the 8 hour round trip......but instead they piss off your parents? Yea, really? I would not give this outfit ANY benefit of the doubt. Report their unethical buttocks!

Yeah, I have screen shots of all that. I spoke to the Dealership Manager (Head Hancho) yesterday.

So I didn't really report them, but I did call them last week to speak to the dealership manager. He called me back yesterday and was extremely apologetic. He told me that this had happened that day and the following several days a couple of times. There was a "hiccup" in the system apparently. He seemed genuinely apologetic, but I'm still on the fence about this dealership. He said that if we were still interested, the 4runner was never officially driven off the lot by the interested party before us. He said he would reduce the price drastically and offer it to us for $34250 and deliver it to Houston. I really don't know what to do. He said there is a process where they start the paperwork and get the car sent to another dealership in Houston so I can officially sign off on it and complete the papers. He said I didn't have to purchase the vehicle if there was something I didn't like. He said he would personally take care of this sale since their way of dealing with us was unprofessional previously.

So gentlemen, what am I to do? Is $34250 even that great of a price for a Certified 2011 Toyota 4runner 4x4 Limited, Blizzard Pearl, non-Nav, with third row? At one end, the car suits what my family and I have been looking for and there aren't any like it in Texas and surrounding states. On the other end of the spectrum, I really don't want to do business with this "stealership." Please, any input would be appreciated. I apologize for beating the dead horse once more.
 
My humble opinion is - No.

Because - if you do get it and something happens you will regret it. Or at least I would :).

I would twist his arm to cut you a deal on a new one. From what I have been reading, people are getting the LE new for a little over 39. So, is 5K = $50 less a month worth the potential headache?
