Quick Stereo Install Question

OK, so I just installed an aftermarket stereo however the display is not lighting up. The CD ejects so I know it's working. Problem is, the dimmer control wire (orange/white) from the head unit, I am having a hard time finding the stock stereo dimmer wire. Does anyone know what wire it is? I did not use a harness to connect the two sets of wires, I just taped them.
Also, I don't care if the head unit display is able to dim, I just want it to display!

You could always just connect the lighting wire to the ign. wire providing 12 volts if you want it on all the time but you should be able to find it easily with a voltmeter. I suspect it will have around 10 volts instead of 12 and will vary as you adjust the dimmer control.

A dimmer wire coming from the factory side of your harness has nothing to do with powering the display of the head unit, it's soul purpose is to provide a variable signal to the head unit to tell it when it should be Bright or Dim.

If your head unit has a detachable face plate you might try cleaning off the contacts on the head unit and face plate with rubbing alcohol. If it is a motorized face plate then you may need to replace the ribbon that connects the head unit to the support structure that tilts the face plate.

If neither of these work.. try making a better ground for your head unit. A bad ground will cause a voltage drop and may not be giving your display enough power.
