Quick trip to Joshua Tree

After watching too many episodes of Expedition Overland on Youtube, I had to get out and do some wheeling of my own. Went with the family and some buddies to check out some of the mines off of Gold Crown Road in J-Tree. There were three 5th gens in our group. Perfect day with temps in the mid 70's, and a light breeze and tons of Hornworms crawling around everywhere. Had to squirt off my wheel wells when I got home from all the worm guts. Other than us, saw a 4th gen and a 3rd gen 4runner, three Tacomas, a Porsche Cayenne (go figure) and four Jeeps (one was with the Cayenne, presumably to help if he got in over his head). It was a great day.

I was just there two weekends ago. Camped in the mining areas just outside the edge of the park. Really great weekend.

Nice! How did the wildpeaks do off-road?

I've been very pleased with the AT3W's. On pavement they've been way quieter than expected (I got the LT-rated). Handle great. THis was the first trip going off-road with them and they handled superbly. Some of the trails we did had lots of sharp rocks. I could here the smaller ones cracking and shooting out after I rolled over them. I did a quick inspection of the tires when I got home, since I had to wash off all the worm guts, and did not see any lacerations or chunks missing. I aired down to about 25# and they handled well. The extra ribbing on the sidewall was powdery white/gray, so I know they were tracking in the soft sand/dirt. At this point, I have no complaints and would recommend them. THey are expected to last 55K miles, so we'll see if they last that long, but as of now, thumbs up.
