Radar detector / USB switch blank

Hey guys,

This is my first real post, I just wanted to show you what I did

-added a radar detector mute button to a switch blank and hard wired the detector to a mount on my mirror. The LEDS still work too. I basically took apart the cigarette plug cord and tapped it for power, and extended the wires for the plug to the detector unit. the side hole on the blank was from a previous USB cable that I had coming out of there for my iphone. I'll be filling it with black silicone caulk eventually.

-added a dual USB charger to the other blank

to mod the blanks, i just used a dremel and super glue.

tapped both into the normal cig lighter plug as the "unused one" that ive read about is powering my GPS.

I can do a more detailed write up/post more pics if anyone is interested.

looks good. have you thought about how you are gonna keep debris out of the USB ports?

Yep - I have two cables plugged into them and it came with a rubber dust cover for when they aren't plugged in.

heres a pic showing the radio and the radar detector which is mounted on the mirror with the remote right next to my hand on the switch blank. The BT mic for the radio is mounted right on the plastic where the oh sh*t handle would be for the driver. I'm thinking of eventually dropping the headliner a bit and snaking the mic through so that it clips onto the headliner by the moonroof. My moonroof is busted and beyond repair so it wont interfere

just at radio shack. It was an Enercell charger or something that I cannabalized. It was like 10 bucks on sale.

I love the usb in the blank, how'd you wire it up? im looking to do this or something like this and electronics aren't my specialty lol
