Radflo / OW coil over noise

Was the kit used or new? How much do you have the fronts cranked up? Something sounds wrong if you ask me.

Purchased new from Metaltech/Radflo. The front is only at 3" - nothing unusual here. Both the front and back seem rough and loud.

Yeah, I'm about to sync Radflo into my convo. My concern is I already paid hundreds of dollars to have this installed. If i have to remove these and reinstall something else I'm ******. The whole point of going the Radflo direction was to get the quality I was looking for and be done with it...hopefully its an easy fix.

To me it sounds like the front is cranked up too high. I have mine at about 2.25 and it is buttery, even when I did not have all the weight. The rear, well, lost for words, unless you got a kit where the nitrogen charge was not right. Which is a possibility for the front too.

Who did your install? There is a possibility it was not installed correct.

I would contact Metal Tech since they are your vendor. They are really good, many, including myself have done business with them and been happy. They should take care of you pretty quick and be able to answer your questions.

Thanks Mike. I had Jacob with Toy Crawlers / Boulder Toyota do the install.

I called Mike at Radflo today, he suggested I take pictures...not sure how that really helps me at the moment. I'm going to have Jacob take another look at the install because this ride is driving me nuts!

Yeah there has to be something wrong. The kit is top notch. I am sure they will figure it out and get everything working right. Keep us posted.

Agreed. I've been running the OW 2.0 kit for close to 2 years and they've been used and abused without making any noise or riding harsh. Mine are completely overloaded between my full skids, sliders, and RTT but they're still holding up pretty well. Unfortunately I'm getting ready to add more weight to the truck so I'm going to have to upgrade to 2.5" shocks.

Thanks for the positive vibes - that's why I went with the kit, was all the positive feedback. Here's what I thinking:

1. Have the installer recheck for loose bolts, torque things down, make sure the rear coils are seated properly, and that everything is firmly installed. Check LCA bushings up front, sway bar in rears

2. Check nitrogen charges at Slee Offroad if the ride still sucks,

3. Contact Metaltech/Radflo for further advice if the two above don' help.

Honestly, it sucks waiting a year for these and doing all the research to end up with a worse ride. I hope it's an easy and cheap fix, cus I'm paying someone to do the labor for me. (this has to change some day)

From what I can gather more people are having problems. Seems like the bearings at the top mount seem to be the issues. You can either replace or repackage with greese. Radflo says all C/O have these issues and its normal to have noise. But I will say I haven't heard of many people having seal failures or nitrogen leaks. So if you really drive your rig offroad all the time then it's not a big deal.

To me it would be miserable driving on a long trip with a rattle or squeak. But I use my 4Runner as a dual purpose daddy hauler and daily driver. About 90% of my miles are on road.

I will say I don't hear many complaints with Icon or Walker Evans. Or with Toytec (but they are more a hybrid setup compared to the other C/O setups).

My update - I had to have my rear shocks rebuilt after 2 weeks on the truck. The fronts still clunk at slow speeds, but per radflo that is part of the design since they are 'race' shocks.

That doesn't make since. My Fox's have solid mounted ie, no rubber and they are quiet. I have never heard of anyone designing a shock that includes a slow speed clunk.

That's why I'll go another direction.

I am surprised Radflo isn't doing something to address this, it's not like they are cheap. They are basically saying we make race stuff marketed to a consumer; better than the competition, but noisier than the competition. It appears Icon, King & Fox will be the alternatives to spend $$ with..

When I pulled my Radflo 2.0 out both front shocks needed new bushings and ball joints, but the rears were fine. What weight rear springs did you get? Now that the rear shocks have been rebuilt do they feel better than before?

I have the 20% stiffer than stock springs in the rear. I plan on selling the rebuilt shocks here online once they send my the upper rubber bushings they forget.

Anyone want my rebuilt rear Radflo 2.0 shocks? Basically brand new now. $250 for the pair.

I have a set of icon front shocks on my 2014 land cruiser and it makes a distinct pfft/click noise on speed bumps or sharper driveway entries. Talked to brad at icon and of course they simply state they can't diagnose over phone and may likely be install related (nice guy but zero vakue). The bs line is they he states the shocks should be absolutley noise free. Really? Lol that's not what I'm reading what icon is saying to other customers.


Grass is not always greener as they say and the longer I'm in this modding game the more I respect oem research/dev work. It's just too bad there are so many functional and aesthetic concessions having to roll on 31s with boring looking street tires.

Hoj, good to see you still doing your thing. Been awhile. I'm from Seattle and we exchanged info back when I still had a t4r which by the way was noise free running the toytec ultimate lift kit. Iirc they run simpler, cheaper shocks without racey heim joints and the like but then do you really need anything more on a truck?
