Radio backlight flicker w. lights on

Just came home with my brand new and first (finally!) 2012 4Runner (had to have the lever). Been a lurker for a while but I can finally be here officially.

I just want to check in before I call the dealer. Whenever the lights are on, the backlight on the radio seems to flicker. Everything is readable but it is definitely enough to be distracting. Anyone seen this before? The only thing I find in searches is the backlight going out, but that's only in older models.

Anyway I'm extremely with my damn big purchase. My 02 mountaineer awd looks sad next to the new beauty, but she had a good run for sure.

I'll be honest with you, it seems a handful of Toyota radios have odd issues ranging from performance to backlighting. There isn't much you can do short of tearing down the radio unit to inspect the circuit. No other lighting issues? Just the radio flickering?

I'd personally just take it to the dealer, have them look it over and warranty the unit. Its not an uncommon thing for our dealership to do.

Did you try to adjust backlight level? There is a dial for that left of the steering column.

Had this same problem..... took it in and they warranteed the radio with no problems. It even came with an additional 3 months of XM. Ha!

Yeah I occasionally have the same issue. It usually happens when I have the interior lights really dim. I just turn them up a bit and it goes away.

Ironically, I just noticed this on mine today as well. Same deal as Mikey - as soon as I dim the dash lights, it starts to flicker. Turn them up a hair and it's all good again. I'm not going to worry about it.

My 2011 TE just started this yesterday. Will be going in for my 30k check up and asking to check or replace.
