I got into my 4runner this morning and quickly noticed my XM radio was not playing. I looked down and noticed my display says check antenna. Any ideas on how to fix this? I would like to avoid a trip to my dealer as well as a large bill. I am planning on checking the connection on the back of the radio in the dash. Where else should I look?

What year? I posted this in another thread, but The XM in my 2010 stopped working almost a year ago. Same "no signal" and "check antenna" on the display. After a 20 minute conversation with XM and multiple refresh signals sent, it was determined to be hardware related. It looks like the same antenna to me, and if you scroll down to halfway, the problem appears to be corrosion due to moisture intrusion. So my antenna is dead, and the dealer wanted like $350 to replace it. I can live with my USB stick and podcasts.

Check out posts in Low profile antenna(shark fin) will explain on 2010-13 fins were bad not sure anyone every got satisfaction , I didn't using a 2014 corolla one works great ! Been looking LKQ for a replacement from 2014 on , must have same 3 prong plug .

Hi UBWine09,
Open the hood and remove the main relay/fuse box top cover. See a fuse labeled: RAD 20A. The fuse is amber in color (RAD is short for Radio). Pull that fuse and leave it out for A MINIMUM of four hours. Doing this will RESET the hard-drive and processor in the head unit.
When you re-install the fuse you should have lost your preset radio stations (so you may want to write them down to make reprogramming them a snap)! There's nothing wrong with your HU; they will all get full of temporary files and history logs and so... a hard reboot will eventually become necessary.
Once this is done, your tuner/nav system should be as good as new! If this MASTER RESET procedure doesn't resolve the trouble, an operating system update may be needed depending on what software version is running your audio system! Please be sure to report back and let us know how you make out with this simple operating system quick-fix as others here may benefit. 'Best to you',

Hey Greg do you think this will fix the 2010-13 models that have issues with shark fin or simply this new message about "check antenna" & doing the reboot/pulling fuse ?
Thanks for the suggestion. I just looked at the under hood fuse box and I only found a fuse that says RAD 10A. I do not see any other fuses labeled RAD.

Hi Mike,
Yes; they will ALL respond to a hard reboot when needed from time to time! The 2010 to 2013 models yield a fuse labeled 30A AMP (the fuse is GREEN with a 'Current/TRIP' value of 30 amps). The antenna cables don't usually break though; which is why I approached [MENTION=208622]UBWine09[/MENTION] from the software aspect first.
I actually did break my GPS antenna once because I was working on the 'Party mode' wiring some time ago and I had the HU resting on the shift lever and it fell off and the antenna connector broke off. The price of a new one was like $560 bucks so I just bought an aftermarket (Cheapo) Toyota GPS antenna kit. I cut the piece I needed off of the new one (the plug) and spliced the co-axial cables together with crimp connectors; cost: $50 dollars... Done! (Ship happens!) :usa2:

No... the fuse that you pulled isn't 'HOT AT ALL TIMES' so you didn't clear the temp files out of the memory banks or RESET the Hard-drive because that circuit goes dead whenever the vehicle gets shut-off. It's the 20A RAD fuse... I know it's there; there's a picture of it on a thread here somewhere... If I find it I'll post it up so you can see it; it may be near the main 140A fuse, I'll take a look!

I figured it was a bad antenna after all the old posts about guys not getting a signal anymore with THAT shark fin , so I replaced it with the newer Corolla type ! Tried refresh of XM , nothing so just leave fuse out for 4+ ?

Okay I see your HOT AT ALL TIMES fuse. It's like mine; says: 30A AMP in the center column...
I thought yours was a 2014 4Runner? Anyway: pull the 30A AMP fuse and leave it out for four hours and that should do it!

2011 sr5 with the up graded model . Tried for a yr to get old shark fin to refresh but never could so tried low profile antenna works ok :juggle:!Just went & looked at fuse box & according to my owners manual 10a is radio & 30a is for amp ! They are in spots 28 (30a) & 26 is (10a)
