I just stumbled upon a direct download portal from toyota, for software updates after days of Googling and forum research.

I've had the same reboot issues on my 2014 T4R, and apparently the software update Toyota released in March is designed to fix this issue.

that is good to know that there is a fix my 15 te rebooted 5 times yesterday after being at the dealer thursday for oil change.
 
not sure if it WILL fix it, but at least there is a potential solution. I just installed the update on mine a few minutes ago. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. I'll keep you posted.

I stumbled upon this link recently as well, while browsing some old threads on updating Entune.
Downloaded the most recent update available through the link (March 2017) and followed the instructions on the same page to push the update to my head unit via USB. Process was pretty smooth, took around 15 mins to complete.
(Note the download link didn't work on Chrome, had to open it in IE.)

It updated my unit to version 0101D7. Drove for around 4h today and it didn't reboot at all. Earlier it used to freeze/reboot once or twice every hour. As a bonus, it also fixed some other annoyances - like the map view settings not getting saved across power cycles.

Others who got their head units updated through the dealer also reported the same version being updated, so I'm pretty optimistic it's the same as the dealer fix. If not, then at least the frequency seems greatly reduced.
Relieved that I didn't have to pay the dealer for such a simple task. Will report back if it starts rebooting again.

Edit: To add, I received a mandatory update over the air a few days ago but that didn't fix the rebooting for me. That was just a SW update and added some Entune apps, destination search, etc.. I think most people on the threads around here have had better luck with the above FW update via USB/dealer.

Edit2/Update: It's been 90 days now and I haven't had the radio freeze even once. This includes some long road trips. Can safely say above FW update fixed the issue for me :)

My radio began exhibiting the rebooting about a month ago and did it 3-4 times in that span. I updated the firmware about a week ago, will report back if it occurs again, so far so good but I haven't driven much this past week so not enough to go by yet.
 
Maybe it's the Magnetic Grey color :). My 2014 SR5 did it once a few weeks ago then the other day it did twice on a ten minute drive. It didn't do it at all today! I didn't drive it.
 
Mine starting doing the rebooting thing but also cut power to the vehicle while driving...all cluster lights came on but the engine didn't quit although there was some power lost. Thought it was the battery but got it tested and that wasn't. Any ideas?

Hi PMHSLight,

Have you done a 'Hard Boot' on the truck yet? This happens regularly around here! The fix is usually pulling the 20A RAD fuse under the hood in the main fuse/rly box, and leaving it out for a MINIMUM of four full hours. What this does is resets the Navi unit back to the factory defaults and deletes all temporary files and history logs; reenabling the unit to work the way it was designed to work! Let us know how you make out, 'Best to you',

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. My SR5 Navi works well most of the time. It's rare for the infotainment system to reboot, but it does do it once every few months.

I did notice that it doesn't like long drives like this user mentioned. On a trip from CA to MN, it rebooted twice on me. Had to re-renter the destination on the navi because everything was lost when it rebooted.

It doesn't bother me enough to have the dealer change it out. I'm most-likely going to replace it with an aftermarket system anyway. I like the Pioneer navi decks. I have a JL sub with the non JBL navi head. Stock navi head pumps out really dirty bass at higher volumes. Need to go aftermarket for cleaner bass, anyway.
 
Anyone know what the latest software version for our 4runners is?
Just want to check to see if I'm running the latest or if I'm due for some sort of software update.

My 15' reboots at least once a day.

I had the same problem, your best bet is to just download the entune app to your phone and log in. when it connects to the truck it will update automatically.
 
Ever since this new IOS IPhone update mine will reboot when I go to make a call or answer one... never had this problem before the update

I got my 2015 Trail edition in Jan of 2015.

I had the reboot and freezing problem for years.

This spring when I had the vehicle in the shop to fix a window motor, I complained about it again.
They said it required a software update.
I had zero faith in the fix as I have heard that line before.

Low and behold, I have not had a single freeze or reboot in the last 5-6 months.
I never thought it would be fixed.

Probably just have to mention it next time at the stealership.
I have the app on my phone, and it's connected when I enter my vehicle. But it still freezes.
 
Performed Firmware update to radio at lunch today.. Crossing fingers the reboot issue is solved! Will be loading update in my wife's Highlander tonight. Her's does not reboot, but rather refuses, or drops, Bluetooth connection...
 
Thanks to all re the update. I just bought a 15 T4R a couple of weeks ago and began experiencing this problem today. I downloaded the SW and updated the firmware tonight. Hopefully the issue disappears.
