Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

Any one have the audio controls on there steerng wheel and does it still work is there anything special I would need to make it work

If you go on the crutchfield site they have all the items you need. I run the Pioneer AVH4600BT. Looks awesome and sounds great. Kept all the factory upgraded JBL system and also got a kit to use the steering wheel controls. Not much room behind the dash for all that "Crap", but yoi can make it all fit!

For the single DIN people-

What brand of install kit are you using? I have a Metra kit and it's pretty crappy, nothing fits together tightly. I'm getting a bit of noise due to the radio moving around and it's driving me nuts.

i used to use the same metra kit you use, i switched that out to american international. best kit and scosche is the same as AI

Installed a new Pioneer HU while keeping the stock JBL amp and speakers for now. Used the Axxess interface and Axxess steering wheel control interface, and then wired in my own step down module to integrate the stock backup camera that came on my limited. Sounds much better than the stock unit, though I may need to go back in to adjust the interface gain.

So whats the deal with the Scion radios? Are they a direct plug and play? I'm trying to figure out why you would go with a Scion radio over an aftermarket one.

I got a Scion t1819 radio for $65 and it literally plugs right into the harnesses of the factory radio and you dont need a dash kit.

I think it's the same as the CarJoying and bunch of other names that sell the same "Hui Fei" unit with a different name.

I've been looking at these cheap off-brand units as well, as I'm tired of having the same Kenwood installed for several years. I've been on the fence with whether I want to go with a full-blown carputer, or another double din nav unit.

The Pumpkin (what a name!) unit you specified is actually pretty cool. It has a capacitive touch screen which is normally only found on higher end units. Mirrors your phone, and can be used with steering wheel controls.

Judging by the comments in the forum section they have, it sounds like a lot of people like it. HOWEVER.... there were also quite a few who were having problems with their radios being stuck in eternal power-up. That would scare me away. Unfortunately, in this case, it's an example of "you get what you pay for".

Another thing I noticed was how everybody was saying how great their customer service was. That speaks volumes. But I don't know if that outweighs the cons.

Yep, I read the comments too, and the comments in this YouTube video review.

It sounds like the reviewer was able to resolve the boot-up looping problem by flashing a ROM update. That may be out of some people's comfort zone, but I've flashed my phones dozens of times and there's not much to it; just follow the directions.

You definitely get what you pay for. I just can't see myself shelling out 2x-3x more money. Maybe I will in the long-run, by then something else will be out and better.

Looks like you can buy it on Amazon and it comes with a back-up camera. Amazon sells it with Android KitKat (4.4) or Lollipop (5.1). Based on personal experience with Android phones, I would choose KitKat.

EDIT: Looks like flashing the ROM is pretty simple and automatic, just download the correct file for the unit and put it on an SD card and put it into the GPS slot of the unit. The system flashes the update automatically.

I have a CarJoying head unit in my Explorer. From what I've read Joying has really good customer service. They also offer updates to the igo navigation and currently have some head units with lollipop.

My experience with it is fairly positive. I really like the igo navigation. The Bluetooth for hands free calls is horrible. There is a fix if you do some searches, but it involves cutting and moving wires inside the head unit. I think I read people have had good luck using a USB microphone, but I haven't tried that out yet. Besides the Bluetooth issue, it's a pretty sweet head unit.
