Rainy day project with ABS and bits to make rear compartment covers

Hey, thanks for this idea. Those open holes always drove me kind of nuts. For my shelter-in-place project I went to my local Tap Plastics store and got a 24in x 24in sheet of 3/16in black ABS with one textured side. It was about $25. I could have ordered a sheet from Amazon for about $16 but I didn’t want to wait.

Finally!

I finally got the ABS adhesive and put the hooks on the bottom of the panel I made. It really holds the cover tightly in the opening so I'm going to leave it as is unless it pops off during driving. If so I'll figure out what clasp I'll use to hold it in. I just cut a piece of the ABS to fit inside of the small opening and slid it in there. It's held in place with the stuff in there. Good enough for me for now at least.
Update: These are the "hooks" that are holding the cover in place.

Question. Would it be unwise to use expanded pvc vs using abs?

Thank you. I don't have the patience I used to have and this was a pain to sand off a little bit, go fit it, sand it more, etc. It still isn't perfect but good enough for me. Thank goodness I'm pretty good with the belt sander, doing this by hand would be too much. It's the details that get ya.

All in a day's work. Thanks for the great ideas. My panel was a little easier to construct. Didn't need to be perfect. It's rear mounted with tabs that screw into the stock trim mounting points on the back side.

I have some old kydex from my holster days, might as well give this a shot. Would be kewl to see the "M.O.L.L.E. fabricators do something like this.

Only real thing i did a little different, was the lower cover. Cut it to accept the MOLLE bag i hang there and was able to fab a clip to hold it in place.
