randemly wont start after sitting overnight

I have a 98 2WD automatic 3.4L Limited. I work 12 hour nights some mornigns when I get off it won't start. I turn the key doors lock, all dash lights come on, when I go to the on postion nothing happens. It does this randomly. yesterday morning the key in the on postion and it started. Im thinking the locking cylenoyde is going bad. any advice?

apologies in advance if this is too basic , try having your battery tested in case its bad already and needs replacement

no its not to basic. I am pretty sure its not the battery. I was leaning towards the starter but there is no clicking noise.
