Random Gas MPG fluctuation

Looks like you've put quite a few miles in the tank judging by your gas gauge so that does seem weird. I guess either you reset it by mistake or the computer did.... Or it's just malfunctioning.

Yeah, I always fill up, but I dont reset it. And I dont think i accidentally reset it unless I squeezed too hard on the steering wheel haha.

Driving home today i was sitting at a stoplight and all of a sudden my Average MPG number started moving around. It looked like it had either reset itself, or it started working like a instant read calculation. Has anyone seen this before? I went from an average of 17mpg to this.

You might try checking your battery connections. Does anything else (like radio presets) change/reset?

your average MPG reading was definitely reset, that is why it is jumping all around like this. The Average reading always keep the past records untill you reset it, even if it's 100 000 miles ago. This is different from the ''estimated miles to empty'' which keeps track of only a certain amount of past miles.

You did reset your average reading no matter what. It will settle down with time. Mine was not reset for so long that I could go 100 MPH for hours or stay idling for a day and it would not bulge.

In this case it is probably a problem then. I know for a fact I did not reset it.
