Rattling after window replacement

So my moms 07 4R was broken into a few months back and the drivers window was shattered.

I had to go through this huge ordeal with getting the window replaced because it seemed like nobody could remove a door panel without breaking it. The J&L guy (company that my insurance made me go thru) damaged the panel so he ordered a new one and replaced it. After he replaced that we noticed that he had also broken the door lock cable. I took that to the dealer and they replaced that under warrenty but ended up breaking the new door panel themselves. Then they too ordered and replaced the door panel.

Now once that is all said and done I finally get to pay more attention to the actual window itself and I have noticed that when the window is all the way up there is a rattle that occurs when I go over bumps.

I want to avoid J&L and the dealer if I can do so, but at the same time I am not very familiar with what to look for. Theres a tutorial on this forum about removing the door panel which is fine but then after that I'm not exactly sure what to look for that could be causing the rattle.

I realize that this is somewhat of a premature post since I haven't even taken the door panel off yet but I'm just a little apprehensive about my own skills.

Have any of you replaced your own windows and might have some advice for me as to what could be causing the rattle?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've never worked on this model but I've replaced hundreds of windows. A lot of times to remove and replace the windows you have to take a track loose inside the door. It is usually the rear track, just follow where the window goes down on the backside and see if this track is loose. It might slide into a clip up on top and bolt on the bottom. It wouldn't rattle with the window down but it would be loose with the window up. Otherwise just feel around in there for anything loose, windows are pretty easy to replace. There shouldn't be much to go wrong. Good luck.

hey man thanks a lot for the info, i'll try and do this tomorrow morning when its light outside.

its just really frustrating because this is a brandnew car and to have something like this going on really makes the payments not worth it.

oh btw i just thought of another question. If the window is off its track then wouldn't it also shake while moving up and down? cuz it doesn't have an problems white going up or down and the window itself doesn't shake or vibrate at all. just curious

The window wouldn't necessarily need to be out of the track. It will usually move up and down fine without the track at all. But, when it was in the down position, it would be putting stress on the track causing it not to rattle if it were loose. Once it goes to the up position the pressure would be off of the track and let it rattle. If it only rattles in the up position I can't think of much else that it could be. If you grab both the front and rear tracks and they're solid you'll have to start poking around at other stuff to see what isn't solid. Good luck.

ok so today i had time to take apart the door and have a look.

nothing seemed loose with regards to the tracks, i secured some of the miscellaneous cables with some electrical tape and put the whole thing back together.

The noise is still there. now im not 100% sure anymore that its coming from the door.

I know people have had rattling from the drivers seat but my seat doesn't seem loose really. I can't imagine where else its coming from but it really is driving me insane.

haha the only problem is that the noise is coming directly from the drivers area so I'm not sure how the second person would maneuver around there
