Rattling noise in ceiling

Just my 2 cents. I have taken my truck back 3 times for this. One time I took the head service manager for a ride to hear the rattle. He heard it and said they would have to remove the headliner. Took it in for the rattle. They said they found excessive wear on the sunroof track and used what they called antivibration rods to solve the problem. When I got it back it rattled all the time not only when it was hot. Took it back a week later and they replaced the track, due to excessive wear. It does not rattle now but I am curious as to how long this will last. 2007 4 Runner with 27,000 mile in the Northeast. How much wear and tear can be on track? I never had a problem with my 1999.

so the dealer replaces\d the sunroof track? was it free of charge and under warranty? I have a 04 model. This problem is annoying me a lot. You have any problems lately with the rattling noises? i need to know what actions to take right now. thanks!

Yes is was free and under warranty. Bear in mind I have a 2007 with 27K on it. I do not know what would have happened if I were out of warranty. That is why I said to the service rep I will see how long these tracks last.

how long is this warranty and what warranty is this under? powertrain or general? Like i said i have a 04 model. you think they will replace it right now?

The warranty is for 3 years 36K miles. I do not know what your dealer would do. I printed the pictures of the fix posted on the forum and showed it to the dealer. Do not know if that would help you or not. Have you taken it in before for the problem? Can you show a history of trying to have the issue repaired?

Rattling Sunroof Shade

I took my 06 4Runner in for a maintenance work including a rattling sunroof shade. I notice most or all the posts here are for a noisy sunroof - has anyone had problems with the shade?

Mine rattles over bumpy roads when the shade is open but is silent when the shade is closed. The dealer is repairing this under warranty using the following parts:

63203-35050 Roof Housing $1023.50
63205-35030 Roof Cable $887.10
63260-35070 Roof Gear $664.20

plus they need the vehicle for 2 days.

The service people are pretty good but on this one, they have not been able to give me any explanation as to what is wrong.

That's exactly what I get. I can see pics in other threads just fine, but not this one. Can anyone actually still see them?

Yup I can see the pics fine; I'm using Firefox 3.0.15 if it matters.
Just got back from the dealer and service adviser said they'd have to remove the headliner ($$$$$$$) - my '03 SR5 is out of warranty. I'll have to look at fixing myself using the described method... thanx again for posting!

I was wondering if one of you guys (whiteSR5) may still have some photos on fixing the rattling noise coming from the sunroof? The posting was several years ago which no longer has photos attached. I'm experiencing similar rattling noise, although I thought it was coming from the rear cargo space somewhere...but for sure somewhere behind me(driver seat). I have 08 4runner sports ed. Thanks!

FYI - The pictures are still there. For some reason, IE is problematic when trying to view them, but Firefox shows them just fine.

Are you using IE8? I can see the pics fine, IE7 on Vista.

Yes, it's the cheapest mod i've ever had $1.00 for a pair of nylon spacers from Home Depot or Lowe's. Cut 1/4 of them (not in half). Then open your moonroof. You'll see a metal tubing along the rails. Insert 1 nylon spacer in the middle on both sides. It takes less than 5 mins to install and that includes the time to open and close your moonroof.

Try a different browser other than IE8. You're not alone, IE8 has been troublesome with pictures to other members as well.
