Rattling noise when heating up... help me diagnose please

so i go out to heat up the truck and there was a loud fast rattling noise coming from the engine. i opened the hood but i couldn't find where the noise was coming from...

about 10 minutes after starting it, the rattling stops all of a sudden and it sounds normal.

no idea what it could be other than something that has to do with it heating up to proper operating temp...

Okay, got it to play, I myself didn't hear anything out of the norm. except it sounded like somoeone was clapping/slapping at the end when the camera/video was being shut down.

Yea. Those video's don't help.. The 2nd one def sounds quieter, but you can't differentiate anything at all.

1. Where is it coming from?

2. Does it sound like metal hitting metal?

3. Exhaust crack?? Sometimes an exhaust leak will sounds like a loud tapping until the exhaust heats up and the metal expands/becomes more pliable and quiets down.

its hard to tell where its coming from unfortunately. would an exhaust leak make the sound stop instantly? when the sound stops, its very quick. one second its rattling, the next its normal... it doesn't gradually go away is it warms up.

When is the last time the drive belts were replaced? How about the clutch and the fan bracket bearing?

Start it again, get underneath by the AC pulley, and it may be the AC clutch on its last leg.

not sure on all those things... but i'll check the A/C pulley. would all these things make that noise and completely stop after its warm? weird. i was thinking of taking the belt off so i can spin everything with a pully to see if any of them need to be replaced...

That would be a good idea. Turn you AC on and see if there is any noticeable difference.

Will do. my heater is always in during warm up, i'll try turning it off too.

so i gut under there and it looks like the pully on both the A/C and the power steering pump can be wiggled a little bit (the a/c more tho)... could this be causing what i'm hearing?

anyone know anything on this? i want to get to work on this... its pretty annoying.

i looked up a new power steering pump and it doesn't come with the pulley. can i replace the pulley and be good?

Take the AC belt off, then start your 4runner and see if the noise is still there. If not, then it could be the pulley or the belt or both. Start with the cheapest.
