RCI Skid Plates save the day
That's great. I got mine last week but I couldn't get the original skid plate off. I'm going to buy an impact wrench to get the bolts loose.
I may wait to install it until I get the lift installed since I have no off-road plans for the immediate future.
Went out to Calico Ghost Town last weekend with friends to off road and found out why we need a differential skid plate. Ouch, I got hung up with the diff between a rock and a hard place. Had to back up over some rocks to get it out. Almost got the jack out.
If that skid plate pictured above were aluminum you would not be able to bang it out flat. Aluminum cracks when you bend it through several cycles.

I can't help but ask how it happened? That's a steel skid and a pretty good dent with a direct front impact. Were you driving too fast on the trail? Just didn't see it? Misjudged the height of the object? I'm glad it did its job and saved any damage to your vehicle.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think it was a combination of eyes drifted from the trail and / or the rock slipped in front as I was approaching it.
I was between 5-10mph, approaching a steep downward grade that started with a turn, so I was slow for sure.

I was really torn between steel and aluminum. I really wanted the weight savings, but the rocks in southern Nevada ultimately lead to the steel option.
FYI: the skid was the first thing I did because I couldn’t wait to start exploring. Just brought front end up 2.5” last month.
