Re-retrofitted my retrofit

Hi, my name is Phil, and I’m a lightaholic (Chorus: Hi Phil).

So, I originally wanted what is supposed to be the mac-daddy of HID projectors; the LS-460. For my original RF these were too big to fit, so I opted for FX-Rs which, as I now know, are outstanding projectors.

Enter the LS-460R which has been modified to save some space, and I decided to go for them. Bought donor headlights on T4R.org, bought the LS460R package from TRS, sent it all to Lightwerkz, and have now installed them – (the same process as my original RF here):

These are big projectors, and they do look good. Cutoff, distance, color, are all excellent, and they are remarkably wide. Was the improvement worth all the time (yes there were hiccups along the way) and money? ……. Sadly no. Better than FXR? Yes, but not enough. I am an idiot.

Phil, which bulbs are you running? I'm considering going HID (there is a White '14 LE on my block with HID's and it looks amazing...), but I don't want to modify for the sake of modif.... Oh, never mind.

I've already done the bulb upgrade to H11 (or H16... I can't remember which way is the improvement...) on Low Beams and High Beams... High beams are awesome, but my lows could be better.

Are you talking about putting HID bulbs in your oem projectors? If so, I can't help you, as I know nothing about that. There are threads about that though.

I know what you went through with the original LS projectors a while back, great to see you got all this sorted out. If it were me, someone would've lost their life. LOL.

As far as saying that the LSs are not being a quantum leap over the FXs, well, give it time. I have RX projectors on my Civic and am happy (not in love) with them. I retrofitted my 4runner with TLs (knowing they would fit into the headlight and are well known, as the LSs, to provide a very wide beam pattern). I can say the TLs are a big improvement over my RXs. The FX is a great projector, but as you said, the LSs are the "Puff Daddy" of projectors. Give it time, you will love them. Little by little you will notice small extras you never noticed with the FXs.

BTW, I got my TLs re-retrofitted with LW a little while ago, I'm a lightaholic too. So much so I'm in the middle of re-engineering the backlight of my HVAC display (but that's another story).

As far as bulbs, I run CBIs in my runner and nightbreakers (ex-SVS) on my Honda. When the nightbreakers start to fade, I'll be getting CBIs.

Well, I somewhat blame myself for the TRS fiasco - I got stupid for cheaper. Caesar [MENTION=81410]LightWerkz[/MENTION] is da man. No drama, no finger pointing, he just stepped up and said "whatever it takes, I'll make it right". Anyone looking for a retrofitter should look no further.

I shouldn't act disappointed with the LS460's, thay are a noticeably better projector. I've been running them all the time and they've already begun to color shift.

Gasp! You re-retro'd your TLs ... shhh don't tell [MENTION=49966]mikey's2010SR5[/MENTION] he'll burn your arse.

Don't worry I just did mine all over again too. but i only have $150 into my retrofit. Is it $1000 dollar worthy, ehh probably not. But its pretty darn good for only having $150 in it.
