Real Sliders with Removable Steps?

So, I checked out the "Consolidate Slider Thread" and nothing seemed to stand out ...

I took the new TRD Pro up Flagpole Knob yesterday in Virginia. Not a hard trail by any means (at least not the paths I took) but the "Predator" side steps my truck came with slightly scraped on some rocks twice. No damage, not a hard hit at all - but it's clear to me that the reduced clearance is not something I'm pleased about (although expected).

I would normally just grab some sliders and sell the Pred's cheap ... but my fiance really likes the side steps, and uses them every time she climbs into the truck.

I saw some "clamp on" steps for sliders, and I found them to look hideous. So - I see to recall, sometime in the past, seeing some real sliders that had bolt-on steps that could be easily removed when off-roading. Seems like something that could easily be adapted to sliders, but perhaps there is no market for it?

The problem with the Predator/N-Fab steps is that the bolt to the body, which is why I took mine off. I can just see it ripping through the body or rockers if I hit something solid. Many companies out there make "0" degree sliders that work well as steps, especially with top plates on them. More expensive and heavier than nerf bars, but they do what they are supposed to do.

N fab makes a rkr rail step system with a detachable step. If y go II could copy the mounting supports on a real rock slider?

I asked on the original OEM rock rails thread but the topic seemed to be dismissed and the thread is now gone. I wonder if those NFab steps would somehow work with the Toyota OEM rock sliders. I know everyone says they aren’t as strong as “real” sliders but they should be enough for the weekend warrior since they bolt to the frame AND they seem similar in appearance to the Nfab which allow the use of these detachable steps. Maybe someone who already has the OEM rock sliders can see if these fit?

It appears there are already holes in the OEM sliders for the brackets connecting the inner to outer tubes. I would expect it's just making sure the width of the nfab step tabs match the spacing of these brackets or maybe getting an extra long bolt?

I've got the N-Fab RKR Rails on mine. I used to take the steps off before going camping or off roading, but I don't bother anymore, and since then I've scraped & bent a couple of the steps while coming down on rocks. They're pretty damn resilient, yet designed to be more sacrificial over other rock sliders.

One of my SR5 buddies have the same system, and he's rougher on his. He's on his second second of RKR Rails (insurance replaced the first set).

I replaced my Nfab nerf/steps (fir sale) with Avid 0° rock sliders.
A bit taller than the step was, thus, a bit .more ground clearance at the rockers.
Still makes for a step, and a handy cup holder when opening the door.

Also, compare the small brackets that hold your steps to the body, vs this gussetted framework bolted to the frame.

I agree in principal with sliders that bolt to the frame as best, but on my Jeep Rubicon, the factory Rubicon rails bolt to the body as well and I haven't had any issues.

We had the Predator steps on our 4Runner, which I took off as the would catch on anything on the trails, and occasionally shins off the trails! They are next to impossible to give away so I was thinking about cutting the steps off and bolting them back on for some margin of protection?

We don't rock crawl but I would like something there in the interim at least until we can pickup some real sliders. Thoughts?

Or you could buy the C4 sliders I'm selling which comes with the bolt on step plates
