Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

I get around 12-14 MPG on the backroads and on the interstates. I'm running a 6" Fabtech lift (worst decision of my life) on 35's with 4:88 Yukon gears. I also have the weight of the front bumper. Luckily, I only have a 15 minute commute to work.

Assuming you aren’t correcting for your new tires, you are actually between 13-16 MPG because you are covering 11% more miles for each gallon burned than what your odometer or the computer indicates.

Short drives definitely don't do well for MPG in these things, especially when it's cold outside. Mine is barely getting to operating temperature by the end of the 10-15 minute city commute. Might have something to do with the mechanical fan trying to keep things cold, while it's cold, right on startup.

Have several vehicles like this, only they’re 20 years older.

The more recent ones either have electric fans with variable speeds, or a bypass loop to warm up the coolant faster.

Even after having the speedometer recalibrated? I figured the computer would compute the gas mileage correctly after the recalibration. Good to know. Thanks!

Got 19.7 driving on the highway last night!

2021 Pro. Overall after 10k I run about 17.1 all things together. Usually right around 19 -21 on highway. Off-road and stop and go around town bring it down. Still stock tires and no extra lift yet (hurry up eibach). I do have full rci skids (with the exception of the trd skid) and caliraised sliders, so a little added weight.

If I take off the pro skid and integration skid, my mileage drops, guessing wind resistance…

Drove 385 miles last weekend. Stock 2023 TRD OR premium with less than 1000 miles. First 160 miles I got 23 mph. Next 225 miles 18.5. On the second tank it sat idling for 45 min keeping the wife warm while I was out photographing some stuff. Overall I was pleased. My 2000 usually gets between 18 and 20 depending on wind direction.

Only 2100 miles on my stock 23 ORP but so far I routinely get 23mpg on rolling hills traveling 55-65mph if the onboard computer is to be believed. I have been babying it so that may be part of it.

How is the speedo recalibrated?

By using the Hypertech In-Line Speedometer Calibrator module.

My 2015 4Runner SR5, 100% stock everything gets about 14.7 MPG. That is mainly with 1 or 2 passengers and zero cargo, driving around San Diego and Tijuana.

On the freeway, we can see 17-18 MPG.


We have Michelin tires.

2019 Off Road. Still stock as can be. Seems to be settling in at about 20-20.5. I got as much as 24 on a couple all-highway trips but then it settles back in to 20-ish. I think it would probably be 18-19ish if it was a steady diet of city driving. Also, I'm an old man and drive drive like one.

I was wondering about this also. We picked up a used 21 Venture just a couple of days ago. Did about 350 miles in 2 days. Back roads (dirt) to Jerome and mostly highway to and around Payson. Avg. 19.8 mpg. I did not expect it to be that high.
