Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Hmm real world...mostly city or dirt, not often, 34% masher, 66% mellow driver, almost a years worth:

I do not know, I know it was at a minimum of 20mpg at 70mph during a recent trip, I just calculated it my head real quick when refilling. Around town not too bad, at least over 17mpg, again, just on top of my head when refilling.

As a note, this is about 6mpg less all around than my Edge with ecoboost got for city and highway. But I could get a solid 33mpg with the ecoboost at 55mph. Around town it was always 23mpg if I remember correctly, definitely not more than that.

would it be possible to tell us why you made the switch from a recent model Edge for the 4Runner? Didn't know the ecoboost was that efficient.

I'm on my 4th tank of gas... MPG shows 12 MPG....... even babying the hell out of the throttle and only going out of the eco zone for passing or changing lanes ...90% stop and go traffic but I dont understand.... I got about 260 miles on my last tank... pretty weak actually.

I just got back from a round trip from Va. to San Antonio TX. a distance of approximately 2700 miles. My over all millage was 20.2 using the miles divided by gallons, and not the on board computer. I also noticed that I got better mileage in the mountains of Tennessee and Virginia than the flat lands in Texas and Arkansas, go figure.:shrug:

Sounds plausible, I was getting about 18.5 to 19 in the flat country and as much as 21.1 in the mountains. All of this on the highway at between 65 and 75 MPH.

my stretch from home to work is about 15 miles and 24/7 pretty much cross winds. which shows as my mpg hovers around 15mpg even though its 70mph speed limit highway.

my mpg above 16-17 is usually when I travel out of town.

I have a 2014 4x4 SR5, and I've gotten 18.6 mpg since I bought it (17,800 miles in the last 11 months).

I've gotten as high as 22 on a trip from Texas to Colorado, and obviously a bit lower driving around town, in traffic, and on the deer lease.

Bone stock 2013 with 27K on it, ~17-18 during the fall/winter mid to high 19's mpg during the summer but I tend to do more highway driving during the summer

Usually between low 18's and high 19's. Up to 21 on the highway.

Will say I feel like I've gone down about 1 mpg avg. since I put on the bumper/winch/lightbar/coilovers. Could be low quality gas, saw fuel truck while filling up twice now and I hate when that happens or adding +/- 150lbs. to the front starts to make a difference.

Still, happy with the mileage. Regular fuel is cheap and no crazy emission systems to suck my wallet dry like my diesels.

I am doing it by hand, not by the computer. But I am just roughly doing it in my head after each fill up, so I am not getting down to the decimal on my calculations, but I know for sure the whole number at the minimum.

How low are you getting? What kind of driving are you doing? I play grocery getting right now mostly and I still get over 17mpg.

"IMO the computer is extremely accurate compared to calculated, more accurate in fact.
In 70 comparisons, my average hand calculated mpgs is currently 21.39 and the average of computer MPG readings is 21.4. YMMV."

My mileage has gone down a bit overall as you can see by my Fuelly sig. Mostly my tires but also more off-road and a heavier foot.

Edit: I just did a quick comparo...
I now have 94 fill-ups where I recorded both the computer MPGs (reset at fill-up) and hand-calculated (at next fill-up).
Results:
average computer reading : 21.23
Average Calculated: 21.28

I'm just watching the avg mpg on the dash.... which is at 12.7 mpg currently. I have an 8 mile commute each way every day which is all side streets and no freeway... I try to keep it in the ECO zone as much as I can.

My last tank full got me about 267 miles before the light came on... I'm sure I could have pushed it to 300 miles but still that's pretty low.

I'm using the MPG off the dash, I reset it every 2K miles or so. The worst I have ever got is 17mpg

One thing to keep in mind is the amount of ethanol in the gas. Most gas can contain UP TO 10%. Many places still sell 100% gas but it's impossible to find around where I am at.

I know that my mileage dropped 2mpg (18 to 16 mpg) in my 4th gen when I switched from location that sold 100% gas to 90% gas.
