i notice something weird happen last night. I was sitting in a drive thru and notice my mpg slowly going down.
I just reset the mpg after getting gas 4 miles away. It showed 14.8 and within a min it goes down to 13.6 mpg.
I swore before when I was stopped, it goes up instead. Currently its at 16.9 driving to work (mostly freeway).
Yes your average mpg will drop when you're idling while not moving so it's working normally.
This made me think on the way home. Its not necessary true...when idling, the a/f should maintain the best possible fuel mixture of stochiometric which is 14.7 to one. When you are on the freeway or cruising the ecu is maintaining stochiometric to maximum fuel economy.
I need to hook up the laptop and see if I can read the a/f what the car is running. That should tell me how my idle a/f is.
When you're not moving you are getting ZERO miles per gallon. Over time (even a short amount) it will cause your average MPG to go down. That's pretty elementary. You're burning fuel and going no where.
that does make sense. Next time when you are out, can you check your car to see if your mpg drop standing still for a minute?
Put it on the mpg and see how far it goes down in a minute. I would be curious to see. Thanks
This is all stock 2012 SR5 4x4 with running boards and KO2 265/70R17 C-rated. Tires are inflated to 38psi for quite comfortable ride. After that trip I check tires - they we cold.
This is crazy to read!! I live in Canada and my truck reads at 16.6 l/100 kilometres which equals out to about 14.1 MPG!!!!! WTF!!!!!! That's a mix between highway and city. I know I live in kind of a up and down elevation, but for my mpg to be that low something has got to be wrong? Only mods is are a Rola roof rack with the extension and a 3" lift.
