Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

First highway trip at 800 miles on the ODO this weekend. Speed was around 77/78 with hills (between Birmingham AL and Huntsville AL) and 90 miles one way.

I averaged 18.4 Mpg. Still averaging 15/16 in the city but like I said before there's not a ton of flat terrain here.

After 1500 miles, 70% streets and 30% hwy, I'm getting 16.9. I had stock tires for the first 1000 miles and upgraded to Nitto Ridge Grapplers E Rated.

Average on the readout is 21.6. That's driven gently mostly highway. Only has it 2 weeks but quite pleased so far.

The mpg computer in 4runner is weird. I don't know what kind of algorithm it is doing but it is not correct for a long run. It may be OK for short trips but as more data it collects, it gets stuck at some unrealistic number.

When I reset it at fueling and I drive constantly the same routine (commute) the at next fueling it shows data that are close to calculated from miles driven per gallons added.

But on my long 5420 miles trip with mixed kind of driving where the real average was between 18mpg and 23mpg, at some point the computer got "stuck" at 20.7mpg, while the real average over these 5420 miles was 21.187mpg. Now when I returned to my daily commuting the calculated is 19.72mpg, the computer now shows 20.5mpg. I will see what number it will show after few months without resetting.

I'm similarly modded, and average the same--low 15s with more city, high 16s with more hwy.

I get 12.9 according to the computer under mixed driving, even though it's mostly freeway , the LA commute is pretty much stop and go. I'm also weighed down quite a bit by mods.

Figured I would throw ours in there..
2011 SR5, currently have about 95k on it with majority being highway/city miles.
Average read out is somewhere in the mid to high 17mpg range. Wife has a pretty decent lead foot so I figure this is pretty good for city driving.
On longer trip, keeping it under 75mph on flat NorCal freeways (I-5 and 99) I can get it up close to 19mpg. Have hit 20mpg twice and that was keeping it below 70mph for close to 3hrs straight or crawling through traffic in Sac that was just "walking" along (not inching).

Have gotten to the point now that we just look at the miles left for the tank regardless.

Interesting. I am new to the 4runner world and only have 1000 miles under my belt. Readout seems fairly accurate so far but I'll keep an eye on it as the miles add up.

I installed the Automatic device in all my cars and the app on my phone to track business mileage. I find it to be a pretty good way to judge fuel economy as well if you are interested in it.

When I'm commuting in stop and go traffic in Los Angeles it can be as low as 13-14 mpg. But that's why I also have a Prius.

You got big tires too. I just put on 275s and mpg dropped big. Which made think I wonder what my tire pressure is? Checked with my gauge last night and they installed them at 30psi. From what I've read on here KO2s people seem to like 38psi of these, they are rated to 80psi.
I'm going to bump up pressure, bet I get my mileage back. Which brings me to what is the tire pressure you are running as 12.9 is very low. Just a thought...

P-size tire presure (printed on the door frame) is way to low for LT size tires. I run 265 size KO2 at 43psi now. There is a gain about 0.2 mpg over the 38psi. Ride at 43psi is still comfortable (38psi is still more smooth). 30psi may be ok for off road, not highway.

Computer has been within .3mi overall for 71000 miles? I'd say that's pretty accurate. Out of 169 comparisons of calc vs. computer, only 6 times has the computer been off by more than +-1 and the worst was 1.4.
Not so much on my Rav4.

I'm running my Cooper STT Pro's at 38 psi.

I'm pretty much fully under armored too which adds a shit-ton of weight.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to reset the MPG tracker... I must be blind but can't find it in the manual either. Brand new 2016 SR5 owner... apologies if this is a dumb question.

Did my first paper calculation test compared to computer. From my gas station to the bottom of big bear gas station I got 18.6mpg. All freeway as the truck sits below with all my mods and 120 lbs of camping gear in the cargo area. 40psi. 70mph. 91 octane. 80 miles and used 4.3 gal. Computer was off 2mpg as it read 16.6 mpg for the trip.

Yep. So I inflated to 40psi after realizing they installed at 30psi. Went from 15.4 mpg to 17.5 mpg. Better highway to your point as well. Which happens to be the majority of my miles.
