Now the same truck, same fuel but different trip. Drove on highway keeping 70mph all the time plus some country roads total 371.5 miles. Fueled up 17.734 gal. That is 20.95mpg. I bet that if I could keep my speed at 60mph I would get 22mpg easy. It is just really hard to drive 60mph on 85mph speed limit highway - long haul truck are limited to 65mph

2016 TRD. Can’t crack 15mpg even on long highway trips using cruise control so it’s always in “economy” mode with green light on the dash.
Bone stock, no mods. I don’t know how to reset the mpg if it’s possible to see if it changes much on road trips? But according to dash I’m 14.9mpg which I assume is average for life of the vehicle? Hardly ever varies.
I’m in Los Angles so it is stop and go, but man for having no power the gas mileage stinks. My buddies 2015 SR5 gets 17-18mpg in LA same traffic. Is the TRD a pig just because of a minor front end lift and more aggressive AT tires?
According to my girlfriend and her kids I drive like an old man, so I don’t hot rod this thing.

Try calculating your MPG the old fashion way to see if it matches whats on your dash.

Use the display button on the right side of the steering wheel until you reach the MPG menu. Hold the display button until it resets itself.
Assuming the steering wheel is the same as the Limited, there is a button on the right center of steering wheel that reads "DISP". Press that button to cycle through the various displays, range, avg. mpg, time elapsed, etc. To reset a reading, such as avg mileage, while it is showing, press and hold the DISP button until the reading resets.
Stop and go in a heavy vehicle will kill your mpg ratings. The aggressive tread tires will reduce mpg somewhat, wider tread surface and/or softer air pressure=increased friction.
I don't monitor my mpg closely, but I recall getting low 20's on an extended highway trip. Optimum mpg probably about steady 55mpg, while 70+mph will cost mpg due to wind resistance.

Thanks! I’ll use both suggestions. Next fill up I’ll see what mpg I get old school way, and I’m gonna go reset my mpg with the display button right now! Appreciate it!

Closing in 20K miles with about 7 months of ownership. Per the TE's on-board gauge, I have a MPG of 18.4. I do more highway than city-esqe driving. Being a spirited driver, tough to complain with a number like that.

It's almost a year for my 4Runner in the new country. Not many miles put on - about 2.5k miles for the whole year, still driving it almost every other day. Most driving is very short trips from a 2-10 miles in the city or 20 miles in some country roads. I had also few long distance trips (600 miles or so each).
While all freeways have 85mph speed limit here, I hardly ever go faster than 65. Actually 60mph is my sweet spot. The result is nice: 20.1mpg on the display, and 19-21mpg at the pump. That is with stock size BFG KO2 C-rated. No lift, no armor.
But even with that my 4Runner is a "gas hog" by local standards where most of cars run on diesel with 30-40mpg. But it makes very easy drive for me as these small diesel cars have a performance of "driving like old lady". 4Runner is a high performance racing machine comparing to them. When you step on the gas pedal in small diesel car, you will make a lot of black smoke without going any faster. But I don't care as I can watch that black plume in my rear mirror.

'17 SR5 4x4.
I was getting ~17.5mpg first the first 5k miles. Then I did 5100's and 285 BFG KO2s and now get ~16mpg

Dang, even with 285s Beating my mpg...unless my dash reading is off, which I’ll see at next full up by Old school calculations
Still sort of a buzz kill my mpg seems so bad compared to others. Unless being in LA has some other variable I’m unaware of.

2017 SR5 Premium, 5k miles. All stock. 70% highway and drive very gently. Been getting 14.5 MPG average since day one. Calculated manually as well.
I asked the dealer to look into it but they refused, unless I agreed to pay for diagnostic.
I refused and logged a case with Toyota corporate. The case manager called me back and said the advertised MPG was provided by the government. The government tested their vehicles and blah blah blah.
Long story short, Toyota refused to do anything about it. All I want is for them to check it out. It's a new car and under factory warranty. There is no reason I should pay for diagnostic. The MPG is not as advertised.
I only fill up with Chevron gas before. Then I switched to Costco gas but didn't make any difference.
Any suggestion on how to improve gas mileage? Don't drive it? [emoji4]

I will spill the beans. 2016 SR5 on 285's and RTT and Sprint Booster= 13.6
My 03 on 265's V8 & TRD Supercharger & 275k miles = 15.9
How in the hell are you getting 15.9 mpg with a blower??? I’m lucky to see 13.xx mpg city/highway with a v8 and no blower. My 285s did t change my mpg either
