This is how I figured it, I did a fill up $42.00 and set trip B to zero now I am 1/2 a tank and trip B is reading 59.8 miles.
so if the tank is 23 gallons I would say 1/2 of a tank would 10 gallons and Empty would be 20 gallons leaving 3 gallons when your pushing your luck when needle goes past the empty line.
Even if I am off a little my gas mileage is still really bad not even close to anyone else at 15 to 16 miles per gallon which means my 1/2 tank would have to be around 130 to 160 miles on trip B or am I really off on my thinking ?

Don’t hold your breath.....I’ve been keeping tabs lately and one tank of all highway driving I got around 17mpg and that was consciously driving gentle that entire tank. That ain’t great mpg at all for highway. Otherwise mixed driving or All city it’s 13-14mpg. And as lacking power as it is, if I’m in a hurry And want to drive more aggressively and pass folks, it gets worse. I’m near 18k miles and no improvement

Haw many trips did you take to drive that 59.8 miles? Every time you start the engine and warm it up it drinks gas without moving. City driving also depends on the type of city. My Tacoma used to have 20mpg. Now when I use it mostly for grocery shopping I'm down to 14mpg. But the average trip is 1-2 miles each time.

Some of you must have lead feet. I have bigger tires, a lift, roof rack, skids, with front bumper and winch and I still get about 16mpg and thats a combo of city and highway. Most of my driving during the week is city and over the weekends most of my driving is through the mountains. I managed to average about 19 mpg last week on a round trip driving through the mountains. I coast every chance I can get which helps. Had a nice stretch where it was all downhill for a good 30 mile stretch.

On long road trips we'll pull close to 19 mpg, going 80 to 90 mph (here in Utah we like to drive faster than is advisable, which is hell on efficiencies). Daily driving we're at 16.9, 16.8 mpg according to the dash. I always try to baby the throttle and not gun it at every stoplight, can't say the same thing for the wife though...

Thanks everyone for all you input so far.
my average trip is 5-7 miles each time, and my 2 min warm up is my am trip
only after sitting all night, I do not normally sit and idle only at stop signs and lights.
As 63Brew recommends I will note my gallons when I fill back up next week
and check my findings against my B trip meter which I did zero out on my last fill up.
I know that winter or cold weather and fuel mileage is really something you not
going to find but what I found so far is a bit disappointing to say the least
when I get a warm day I will replace my air filter and check the air box and supply hoses for any problems.

skip the 2 minute warm up and start driving.. keep it under 2500 rpm.. depending on how cold it is outside the 4runner may never reach optimal temps within 5-7 miles... youre burning gas unnecessarily so you may as well just get to your destination
in salt lake utah many folks warm up their cars before they leave.. 10 minutes each time.. that also contributes to the inversion/smog problem they have which is so bad city recommended masks like... oh and there's been so many reports of stolen vehicles because theyre left running in the morning

2018 trdorp I’m averaging 16-16.6mgp with 60/40 city/hwy driving. Using 87 octane. I make a concious effort to stay within eco with my pedal play.
Hummm, ...., better record mileage and fuel fill volume from the pump. Calculate your gas mileage by hand to see if the dash gauge is in error.
Quick list
get OBD codes and diagnose from there.
change spark plugs, oil, and air filter.
clean or replace mass air flow sensor.

I’ve had my dash mpg calc going since I drove it off the lot back in early October. I’m sitting at 16.2 right now, I have not tried hand calculating yet to verify. I’ve mostly floated around the 16 mark on average.
This is with about 85% city, 15% highway. I also tend to have a lead foot :zoom:

So I drive 42 miles one way to work on the highway and I’m averaging 19-20on the computer. I just punched mine so I’m waiting to clear it and run a full tank and do my own calculations. Maybe I’m stupid but I can’t find out how to run a Trip and see what my computer says on a tank. I’m trying to track my tank on the computer any input..?

Reset the MPG display at fill-up and either note the ODO or reset the trip meter. At next fill-up note the gallons of fuel, the ODO reading, and MPG display reading and reset for the next tank. Compare the displayed MPG vs. the number you get when you divide the gallons of fuel by the miles. I’ve been doing this for 6-7 years on my 2010. They are usually very close although they can vary between tanks as much as 1.4 mpg. If I average all of my hand calculated numbers vs. my computer readings they are within 0.1mpg.

I commute to work twice a week with 108 miles door to door going down 1 mountain up and down another and get 20 all day. I get 18-19 anywhere else and two weeks ago fully loaded and pulling a 12' bass boat I made with it fully loaded and still got a bit above 16. I have a stock 2017 TRD OR with nitto Terra grapplers in stock 265/70/17.
