Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Second week of ownership on a 2018 Premium. Rural commuting in the mountains of Pennsylvania and the dash says 21.5 for the last 275 miles. First tank was 22.6 but there was a lot of pure highway in that week. Generally we beat the EPA numbers due to the rural roads with no red lights etc. I am more than pleased.

2011 Trail Edition 2.5/1.5" lift stock tires usually get 20-22mpg during summer months to and from work which involves pretty much non stop 40-60mph driving. 19-21mpg in the Winter not exactly sure why. Generally gives me 420-480miles to the tank.

Cold air = dense air. Takes more fuel.
I made a trip home in my FJ and saw only 13.5 mpg when it was below zero.
Not good.

man your mpg blows my mind... not doubting your mpg claims but am wondering why i cant achieve anything near that..

Stay out of the cities. Drive lonely hwys. Stay below 70. P-rated tires at 36psi.

2016 TE tires always @ 34psi cold

20.5+ mpg using Sunoco 90 octane marine fuel (0% ethanol)
80% of my driving is 40mph and AC off

corn free fuel really does net better mpg

Averaging 17.1 over 9k miles... mix of everything. It'll get into the low 20's on flat highway cruising.

Current last tank went 400 miles and just hit the gas light, we’ll see what happens with the new tires but I’m not expecting much loss over the size increase .

Three tanks through my new '18 SR5P: 21, 21.5, 21.2. 70% highway at 70-80 average. I'd be happy if it continues!

I continue to envy all of you with the 17-20 range

Granted I’m doing 90% LA Around town but it takes being on the highway for an entire tank on a road trip using cruise control so that green “economy “ light isnon the entire time, with no traffic to get the 17mpg in my bone stock ‘16 TRDP. Still love it but gave up on hoping for better mpg haha. Around town it’s not much better than my old TJ Rubicon that was loaded with bumpers, skids, lift etc.

Just returned from a trip, Meridian, Id to Mariposa, Ca via Lee Vinning, Ca. Returned via Merced, Sacramento, Ca, Reno, Nv, Lakeview, Burns, Or, back to Meridian, Id. Stock 2016 Trail, 265 Michelin Defenders, 34 Psi, Chevron regular unleaded. 21.3 mpg hand calculated for entire trip.

17 TRD Pro. Almost 19K miles. SSO Sliders, Yakima roof rack and fairing, are the only things that could affect gas mileage. Getting 18-19mpgs right now. Mostly highway during the week.

15.8mpg over 75k miles with Gobi Stealth, Load Range C tires in 275 & 265 Series over the life of the truck. Probably 65% City, 35% Highway driving.

I just turned 1400 miles in my 2018 TRDOR. As it sits been bone stock. 50/50 driving. A lot of my highway driving is actually Portland traffic so....

Just fueled up today, 4th tank, and got 21.5 MPG bringing the lifetime average to 20.8 MPG.

Making real difficult to be excited about bigger tires.....

Here's my history since taking it from the lot in 2015. 100% stock other than window tint.

75% highway; 24% city; 1% off road. Trading it in in approximately 2 weeks for a new TRDP.

I drive my 2015 4runner( 3rd row seats) a mixed of city and highway. Live in Honolulu HI. Average MPG - 18. 265/17/70 BFG TA KO2.but I fricken love my 4runner it’s worrthhhhh.

Before 2" Toytec lift and 285s I averaged 19mpg.
After I'm averaging 17mpg.

As another reference point: 2013 Trail, it is my DD, with my lift (2.1 “front and 1.5” rear) and Nitto TG AT tire (stock size) my average varies from 19.0 to 21.0 MPG.

My stock 2012 SR5 with no upgrades gets about 16.7 mpg city miles. I'll update my post the next time I go on a road trip.
