Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Ridiculous thread. So let's get my postcount to 5. Tire size, mods, and driving style all result in different results per vehicle. Start at 17 and figure less for every additional weight or aero mod. You care about mpg but want body on frame? get a new JL. that trans is smoooth and you can get 20mpg easily.

I have a 2018 on 275’s, full roof rack, no extra weight or accessories. I get as low as 15mpg when doing 75-80mph into strong headwinds of +20mph and I have seen as high as 21mpg when keeping it under 70 over flat terrain with no winds. 16.5-18.5mpg is pretty much the standard average with mixed driving. Considering the 5-speed transmission and old tech motor I can live with those numbers.

Average: 17.1mpg (60% highway, 30% city, 10% dirt/gravel roads or off-road (mostly sand)

Big difference in actual highway mpg depending on Interstate speeds:

21.5 mpg if I do 60mph
16.9 mpg if I do 80-85mph (most of the time)
14.0 mpg if I do triple digits

2014 Trail. Bilsteins on .85 up front. Still stock Dunlops. 17.3. Mostly stop and go 20 miles a day. Never have reset the mpg function. 29800 miles on the clock.

2018 TRD Off road. Anything but stock. Added weight includes gobi roof rack, sliders, steel front and rear bumpers and steel skid plates. Icon stage 6 lift. 285/70/17 10 ply KO2 tires. Goose gear drawers for added weight with fridge/etc. Regeared to 4.56 and have a Magnuson supercharge. Average around 13.5 mixed driving highway/city. Have seen as high as 17.x if I go around 65 MPH constant, as low as 12.5 ish driving 80 MPH around the Montana Hills.

Took a road trip this weekend and this what I got: 11.1 gal for about 226 Miles, drove on I-95 with medium traffic, speed was mostly between 60 and 80 mph.
>90% Highway: 20.4 MPG

2019 TRD Off-Road with KDSS, currently in stock configuration and will remain this way for the first 15k miles. My weekly miles end up being a roughly 50/50 mix of city streets and freeways. I'll be logging each tank on fuelly, and will update the thread at 5k, 10k, and 15k miles.

First tank was 18.5 mpg hand-calced. The computer showed 19.8.

2018 SR5, 4x4 totally stock. I’ve manually calculated my mpg since 3,195 on the odometer and the truck has just over 9k miles now. My average daily drive is 85% interstate and is 21 miles each way. Last fill up had me at 19.5 mpg and I think my average mpg is 19.4. My best mpg has been 22.7 with the worst at 17.8 or so.

Yes, being rather OCD about my fuel efficiency has evolved my manner of driving into something that a lil old church lady would probably yell at me to “stomp that skinny pedal!”.

My mpg recently went to $#!+
At 4500+ft I was getting 17-18, ~75% city. Now, AT sea level I'm lucky to get 14.

I'm not exactly worried about the cost of gas, but more curious if something is up or if elevation really had that much of a negative impact.

I average 23 mpg - not an exaggeration I have honed my scangauge to be very accurate.

these are under ideal conditions..I drive slow & Houston is relatively flat.

My schedule allows me to avoid traffic.

HOWEVER....when the wife or kids drive it....14 to 17 MPG

my mpg seems really low compared to you guys. I think come spring i'll have to do my plugs.

Road conditions, geography, driving habits, modifications and speed vary greatly between everyone which is why it’s really impossible to compare mileage. I drove 150 miles the other day, reset my mpg meter and averaged 21.9. That was all highway, with 3 passengers, relatively flat and staying between 65-70. I have a stock 2018 off road premium. On a recent 500 mile round trip up to the White Mountains from R.I., I also averaged around 21.9, so I’m pretty happy with my mileage. But....how can I compare to someone who puts 35” tires, a three inch lift, rock rails, steel bumpers etc, and drives 85mph on the highway?

'18 Ltd. just changed out to trd pro wheels (265/70/17)

30% hwy/70% city and usually am in the 16-17's

On longer highway trips it's close to 20

Approximate mpgs with stock 2018 TRD off road with KDSS according to dash computer:

16-17 mpg around 80 mph.
17-18 mpg around 75 mph.
18-19 mpg around 70 mph.
19-21 mpg 60-70 mph.

Recent trip from San Diego to Mammoth and back (about 400 miles each way) traveling in the 70’s: 19.5 mpg.
